WWE News & Notes
WWE reportedly has sold and distributed around 47,866 tickets for tonight’s SummerSlam 2025 Night 1 show at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey as of Saturday afternoon, according to WrestleTix.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that The CW officials are very fond of NXT talent “All Ego” Ethan Page and want to use him in as many promotions as possible for the network. The CW officials reportedly have been very happy with how well Page does media work. Page recently did a ton of media wotk and was the WWE rep at a recent NASCAR race that aired on The CW.
Dave Meltzer also reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that “All Ego” Ethan Page and Ricky Saints are still currently on WWE’s radar for the next call-ups to their main roster.
As noted before, WWE recently cancelled their “WWE Late Night Featuring Tony Hinchcliffe” comedy show that had been scheduled to take place on August 2nd in Englewood, New Jersey. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that prior to the show being cancelled, WWE had only sold and distributed 632 tickets for it.
In a recent interview with the Hot Ones, Cody Rhodes gave his thoughts about how his late father Dusty hated the term “Dusty finish” for wrestling matches. Rhodes stated “Let me explain the ‘Dusty Finish.’ He hated the term but it was pretty accurate.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
During Friday’s WWE SummerSlam Kickoff event in Newark, New Jersey, AJ Styles gave his thoughts about how this year’s SummerSlam event might be the last one in his wrestling career. Styles stated “If I’m being honest with you guys. This might be my last SummerSlam. So, I plan on tearing the house down one last time at SummerSlam for you guys.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
WWE recently revealed that John Cena was in attendance at their talent tryouts on Friday in New Jersey. In a video posted on Twitter, Cena was seen giving advice to the trainees stating “You can be reliable, you can be coachable, and you can be fucking interested. Those three things, they better your existence here. You might not be on the WrestleMania poster, but you sure as hell have bettered your odds of being part of the event. But, if you are uninterested, uncoachable, and unreliable, this is the first and last time we talk. I want to wish you the best in the rest of your tryout, your journey doesn’t have to end here. The great thing about our business is there’s many ways to get to the top.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show podcast, WWE Hall of Famer and co-host Nikki Bella revealed that she suffered a breast implant injury during her Eight-Women Tag Team match at this past Monday’s WWE RAW show. Nikki stated “I had to go to the doctor yesterday to get my tit looked at.I was just telling Brie, having conversations with my shirt off thinking, ‘I didn’t think I would be here today on my day off in New York City getting my boobs looked at,’ knowing that my implant, I think, has moved. It has moved. Did anyone see that heat spot on Monday night? Piper’s elbow drop?” Brie responded stating “Put Nikki’s implant right into her ribs.” Nikki responded stating “Yeah, it’s been hard to laugh and cough, but it’s okay. We’re going to get it fixed. One day. I told the doctor, ‘Newly divorced. The minute these boots are hung up, I’m coming back to you and we’re going to make these girls look real good.’ These girls are going to get some action in the future. Not that bad of a difference. They still look hot.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show podcast, Chelsea Green gave her thoughts about her being upset over WWE’s decision to not have the WWE Women’s United States Championship be included for the card of this weekend’s SummerSlam 2025 events. Green stated “It definitely makes me upset. I feel like I really put in work with that title. When I first got that title, I did not stop working. I won it before Christmas, I worked through Christmas and literally every single day until I dropped the title. So, it does make me upset. I feel like I laid the groundwork for this title to mean something and unfortunately we’ve taken a step back from that but that’s not the girls fault. That’s just a fact that there’s so much good wrestling right now that we don’t even know how to fit in on TV. Am I making excuses, yes. Because you can always fit something on TV. You saw me lose, even though I had that title for like four months straight. I didn’t even win a match and I was only on TV maybe two to three minutes every week, but it was still there and being shown. I do make sure that every time Giulia shows up at TV, I hype her up. She should still feel amazing for holding that title, whether it’s being used on TV and being defended or not. I do feel like we could do more with it. She’s such an amazing wrestler, she’s insane. She’s so good. I do feel like there’s something there, I feel like she should feud with Zelina but like really feud, like really give us something to tune into. I would be okay feuding with her but I’ve said this before, let me not continue to put my hands where it doesn’t belong. We’re two champions removed from me, let her have her moment because I already know people keep talking about my reign with the title because we haven’t really seen much since. Poor Zelina had to feud with me until the end of time, until she lost the title. I just think that Giulia has the platform to possibly have girls come up from NXT or Raw or bring girls in that haven’t been working to feud with her. I just hope we can do that.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with WFAN, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque gave his thoughts about the differences between him, Vince McMahon Sr., and former WWE and TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon for their mentality for creative input. Levesque stated “If you’re talking about the Vince Sr days, there was a lot less overall storytelling, right? It was a lot more matches and promotion to get to those matches. I think talent had input on what they did creatively in-ring, where the end result was up to the promotion and up to Vince Sr. Vince Jr, it went all over the place. From his idea to do it this way to the right talent having a lot of creative input. I like to work directly with talent. Vince did as well, don’t get me wrong, that was his strong suit. I worked with him for many years, it’s how we created a creative partnership. I love to work with talent, I love to hear their point of view. They know their characters. Let’s get all those points of view together and then determine the best route for it. As long as everybody is open to, ‘Hey, we want to do this but that might not be the best idea on the table.’ Somebody might have something better. I don’t care whose idea it is or where it comes from, let’s take it and run with it. If we can make fans happy or make them intrigued or sometimes make them mad at what we’re doing, that’s what it’s all about. Silence is the enemy, loud reactions is where we’re at. It doesn’t matter where the idea comes from, we’ll run with it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
