WWE officials reportedly were concerned that the crowd at this past Monday’s WWE RAW show in Detroit, Michigan would have booed their tribute segment for the late Hulk Hogan, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported that his sources within WWE stated that the company played a tape of Paul Levesque and his tribute speech that was taped from the July 25th SmackDown show in Cleveland, Ohio just in case the Detroit crowd might boo it.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials had feared that a city that has the highest percentage of black residents of any major city in the U.S., except maybe for Memphis, might have taken things in a different direction. WWE officials reportedly did not want this to happen and turned down the crowd mics during the tribute just in case. Meltzer reported that these fears were for nothing due to the crowd ended up being respectful towards the Hogan tribute on the show.
WWE officials reportedly held a similar fear for this past Tuesday’s NXT show at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida but for different reasons.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials were concerned that the smarter than normal crowd for NXT shows and the intimate environment where it would only take two or three people booing or chanting to ruin their tribute to Hogan on the show. Similar to this past Monday’s RAW show, these fears were also for nothing due to the NXT crowd end up also being respectful towards the Hogan tribute on the show.
