Update:
Figthful Select reported that their sources stated that WWE officials had locked down their plans for the Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena match a week prior to their Wrestlepalooza event.
Those spoken to reportedly also confirmed that WWE officials never changed their plans on the day of the show for the result of the match.
Last Saturday’s WWE Wrestlepalooza event in Indianapolis, Indiana was notable for Brock Lesnar defeating John Cena in a mostly extended squash match. The nature of Lesnar’s dominate victory lead to online rumors throughout this past week of Cena was originally meant to win the match until plans changed.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that there were never any serious discussions within WWE about Lesnar losing his return match.
Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that Lesnar was not brought back just to lose his first match and while there are always discussions and the idea might have been broached for Cena to win, it was never the planned finish for the match.
Meltzer also reported that the whole purpose for the match was all about making Lesnar as strong as possible and getting a last match with Cena. Meltzer also reported that the feeling within Cena is that he is bullet proof no matter what they do with him in terms of wins and losses.
Meltzer also reported that the idea is to build up Lesnar as a monster again and have someone slay the monster for the big rub. Meltzer reported that it would be more valuable saving the big and first Lesnar loss for someone like a Jacob Fatu or Bron Breakker. Meltzer speculated that WWE could also end up having Cody Rhodes be the one to defeat Lesnar first if he needs a challenger and if they feud since Rhodes would need to get the win.
