The Blade Back Injury Update – The Blade Says He’s Getting Closer To Being Cleared

As noted before, The Blade has been out of action for AEW since February of 2024 due to a back injury and back fusion surgery.

A recent episode of the Talk N Shop podcast featured The Blade as the guest. One of the topics discussed included The Blade providing an update on his recovery from his back injury and surgery.

“I had a back fusion, spinal fusion on September 10, 2024. It’s been about a year now. I’m getting close to going back to doctors and getting cleared.”

The Blade also gave his thoughts about the cause of his back injury.

“Years of bumping, but in 2022, me and Butcher had a killer match with the Bucks. I’m in my 40s and I was thinking that I was Jeff Hardy. I love the Hardyz and Dudleyz table match from Royal Rumble 2000. Jeff takes this awesome bump where he does a frontflip over the top, table is against the guardrail, D-Von moves. I went to do the exact same thing. I remember when I slid in the ring, I hit the ropes, and my legs weren’t there. I jumped, miss the table, flopped on the floor. The right side of my back went completely numb. The past year or two was getting to the point where it was uncomfortable. With back stuff, surgery is the last option. So I went to physical therapy. They did a round of shots. They did a whole bunch of different stuff.”

The Blade also gave his thoughts about how AEW has taken care of him throughout this whole time.

“I’ve been wrestling 25 years. I’ve had a bad back for a long time. AEW took care of my surgery. They took care of my physical therapy. They’ve been taking care of me for over a year now and I’m really grateful for that.”
