A recent episode of The Sandman Podcast featured current AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Storm’s thoughts about the future of her wrestling career and her revealing that she is a “lifer” for AEW.
“When I’m done wrestling, you’ll never see me again. You’ll never see me in any other capacity, or in any other company, for that matter. Exclusive. I will vanish with that. and there’s no, like, encore. This is it. I’m not doing anything else. Like, where would I go? What would I do? Because I’m on a long deal for AEW, like I’m signed my life to AEW. I’m on a five-year deal, and I can’t remember how long. But I’m a lifer for AEW. There’s no like, ‘oh, well, we’ll see what happens.’ That does happen a lot in wrestling, though, yes. Random crazy shit happens. But as of now, AEW for life.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about her not being interested in a potential return to WWE in the future.
“That’s no offense to them. I think they’re great, and I understand them for exactly what they are. They’re a machine. They’re a business. And I just don’t fit in with their whole shtick, and that’s cool. It’s like, I love it. I love a lot of the people that work there and it’s like, yes, get that money. Get that power. But, I mean, realistically, in my life, like, that’s it. I’m not going to like, how old can I do this? How long can I do this? I don’t know.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about what she feels is the biggest misconception about AEW CEO Tony Khan.
“Well, I’m not really sure on how he’s actually perceived. I assume everyone adores him. He’s like the nicest f—king guy ever, with the best of intentions, and he just loves wrestling so much.
I just love the guy. I f—king love the guy. He’s the best and he works so hard. He’s obsessed with this s–t. He’s so into it.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about her playing the role of Clara Mortensen in the Mildred Burke biopic Queen of the Ring and Khan being the person who first approached her about being in the film.
“It was very fun to do. President Anthony Khan called me up and was like, ‘Do you want to be in a movie?’
I didn’t know we would film until 7 AM. I started hearing birds going. I was like, ‘Holy s–t, I’ve been doing seven hours of the same match sequence. Wow. Physically demanding but good.
Honestly, I had no idea what the f–k was going on the entire time. I was one of the only wrestlers there and it was all just people losing their s–t in these bloody 1940s costumes.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about women main eventing AEW pay-per-view events in the near future.
“It’s too late at night for me. We’re going to have to wait for somebody else. If they can take it from me. I’m cursed with too much talent. I can’t be beaten. It’s a terrible thing.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about the differences between her matches against Mercedes Mone and Mariah May for her AEW Women’s World Championship earlier this year.
“Pulled it off somehow. But you never know. Sometimes you’ll absolutely shit in the bed. You just can- you never know. Oh, it’s always totally random for me and I don’t know. Some of it’s just like great. Some of it’s like the worst.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about what match she was specifically thinking of when she mentioned worst matches.
“Oh, there’s been so many. The worst? Oh, I can’t even go there. There’s just been so much. That’s part of the business. There’s so much garbage. I’ve been on shows where I’m like, this is so embarrassing. I feel like I should pay the fans back their money.”
On the topic of sometimes wrestling is like comedy and sometimes you bomb, Storm stated:
“50-50. I go into it like, I’m like Evel Knievel. I’m not paid. I’m just paid for the attempt.”
Storm also gave her thoughts about WWE’s counterprogramming efforts against AEW.
“I think it’s great. Come on, fight me! Be a bit weird of them as a large corporation to just do nothing. Of course they are. Of course they will. It’s their job. We’re the old hot ticket, we’re the talk of the town.”
