Zelina Vega reflected on Instagram about Thursday being the 24th anniversary of her father’s death during the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City, New York. Vega stated “These pictures have so many stories attached to them.. some are obvious and are just beautiful memories I have with my dad, mom, brother and others. Some are sad like the sign we made for people looking for my Dad at Ground Zero or a txt from my childhood friend and her recollection of the day. Others are more recent but mean the world to me, in one photo it’s my arm wrapped with the words Never Forget Michael Trinidad 9-11-01 written by Rey Mysterio, someone I watched in my Dad’s room on the tv.. another is of The Rock, someone he loved, we loved watching and celebrating together.. he brought his daughter, now a dear friend of mine, to visit my Dad at the memorial. Those are those crazy ‘I can’t believe I did that’ moments.. our faves know all about you Dad.. my fans know all about you, they visit you, make signs for you.. it’s insane. I wish you would have gotten to meet my husband, I know you would have loved him and how amazing he is to me, Tim’s daughter Ruby.. she’s like a mini me and Tim, like your pride and joy in one. We miss you more than words the lump in my throat prevent me from saying. I love you forever. Our guardian angel. Michael Angel Trinidad. Thank you for being with me every step of the way. I felt incredibly blessed to finally bring a WWE title to you. Finally. That will stay with me forever but.. we’re far from done. Rest In Paradise. Love you Dad.“
This past Wednesday’s Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference 2025 event in San Francisco, California featured TKO COO Mark Shapiro giving his thoughts about the talent pay structure in UFC and WWE and TKO’s mentality when it comes to paying UFC fighters and WWE wrestlers. Shapiro stated “We’re running a pretty lean cost structure. In that cost structure is fighter pay. We’re going to continue to do right by our fighters and superstars. The cream of the crop will be paid the premium dollars. We invest in the product. Our last deal with ESPN saw us give bonuses for Fight of the Night, Knockdown or Submission of the Night. Saw us give fees for any of the global partnership deals we did, and consumer licensing deals we’ve done. We’re going to share as much as makes sense with the stars of both leagues. We will be very competitive. We are very competitive. We pay more than any other competitor we have in combat sports. We know why we’re here. It’s a team effort. It’s our brand. It’s the work Dana White does. On the WWE side, it’s the creative force that Triple H. It’s the strategy that Nick Khan drives. It’s ultimately the hard work put in by our crews. We’re doing a lot of work per week. There are a lot of events to put down. There are no breaks. It’s 52 weeks a year, so we have to pay for performance in terms of our people and the same goes for our fighters and superstars. You shouldn’t expect anything out of the ordinary, it’s a run rate for us, but we’re focused on it. Yes, you’ll get some of those Conor McGregors or Jon Jones that move the needle and get paid a little more, but they deliver more in return. It’s a scale and a formula. We’re very transparent about it with our fighters and superstars.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, WWE Hall of Famer and AAA creative member Konnan gave his thoughts about how WWE has boosted the scene in Mexico for AAA wrestlers. Konnan stated “Rob Viper recommended Komander to me years ago. I saw him and he was very green and raw. I brought him to AAA and we started to cultivate him. Now he’s in AEW making more money than he’s ever made, and he was crying. He was crying because if you saw where he came from, it would make you cry. He comes from poverty. All these guys come from poverty. Maybe second-generation guys don’t, but all these guys, [WWE] gives them a different lifestyle, better hotels, better transportation. Mexico is rough. That ain’t for the weak stomach. That is a rough place to wrestle. The rings are hard. Security concerns. A lot of people who aren’t professional. A lot of times the transportation is not the best. To see them be able to help their family and live a better lifestyle makes me really happy.” Konnan also confirmed that there has been better pay across the board in AAA since WWE bought the company. (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In the same interview, Konnan also gave his thoughts about WWE President Nick Khan’s backstage speech to the locker room prior to AAA’s Triplemania XXXIII event and WWE’s influence on AAA. Konnan stated “They’re promoting it and going to the shows. At TripleMania, at the very beginning, who went into the ring? Hunter [Triple H] and Shawn (Michaels). The place went nuts. They traveled there. Nick Khan gave a speech in the locker room. Everybody was pumped up. He was motivating everybody. Hunter motivated everybody. To see them there shows them that they care. They could’ve been somewhere else. Plus, the fact that they’re trying to get us a TV deal. You’ll be able to watch us on TV, not YouTube. The way they want to promote us worldwide, not just in Mexico and the United States. Worldwide. They understand this is something that can get traction worldwide. We’re just starting.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
