Mercedes Mone vs. Kris Statlander for AEW Women’s Title Set for AEW Full Gear 2025

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show at the Boeing Center At Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas featured one new match announced for the card of Full Gear 2025, which takes place on November 22nd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

This new match announced was an AEW Women’s World Championship match of Mercedes Mone vs. Kris Statlander (c).

This new match was initially setup following a backstage promo segment at WrestleDream 2025 over Mone talking about her issues with Statlander and issued a challange for Statlander’s AEW Women’s World title at Full Gear. During tonight’s show, Statlander was seen backstage being interviewed by Renee Paquette. Statlander responded to Mone’s comments and accepted her challenge for her title at Full Gear. Later in the show, this match was made official for Full Gear.

Athena Makes Surprise Return

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured current ROH Women’s World Champion Athena making her surprise return.

During the show, Mercedes Mone was seen backstage with cake still on her face after Kris Statlander crashing her 12 belts celebration party earlier. Alica Atout wanted some words from Mone about what happened tonight only for Mone to respond yelling in anger. Before Mone could actually say anything, Athena showed up to interrupt and talked about both of them making legacies of their own. Athena continued offering them teaming up and making one together as the AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions. Mone responded stating she likes the idea and Athena responded telling Mone they are going to get her cleaned up and snatched her away to get ready for Minion Training.

It sounds like @MercedesVarnado might be the newest member of the M.I.T. program! @AthenaPalmer_FG made it clear what’s next, the #AEW Women’s World Tag Team Titles!

This was Athena’s first appearance since this past September.

Teams & Bracket Revealed for AEW Women’s Tag Titles Tournament

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured the full list of teams and bracket officially revealed for the upcoming AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament to crown the inaugural champions.

It was also announced that this upcoming tournament will officially start at next week’s Dynamite Fright Night 2025 show on October 29th in Edinburg, Texas.
