A recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show podcast featured Darby Allin as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Allin’s thoughts about Sting’s son Steven Borden’s in-ring debut match earlier this month.
“He had his first match last week. I wrestled him in a tag team match. It was good. For his first match, yeah, it was good.”
Allin also gave his thoughts about the future potential of Borden’s wrestling career.
“As far as he wants to take it — as far as he wants to take it.”
Allin also gave his thoughts about his glass breaking spot during his tag team match with Sting against The Young Bucks for Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution 2023.
“My insides were hanging out. After I fell through the glass, the ref is looking at me like, ‘How do you feel?’ I’m like, ‘I’m feeling pretty good.’ He’s like, ‘Oh shit, your insides are hanging out, we’ve gotta bring you to the back.’ I’m like, ‘I can’t go to the back, this is Sting’s last match, I’ve got one more spot.’ So if you see me pop back up, I’m duct-taped. My side was completely duct-taped. Nothing ended up coming out but you could see the insides.”
Allin also gave his thoughts about how he was able to retire his father from work from the money he’s made with his AEW career and how his father helped him with the preparations for his Mount Everest climb.
“I had my dad retire. With AEW and the money I was able to make, I’m like, ‘Just retire dad. Be my personal assistant.’ He’s like, ‘What the hell is your personal assistant?’ I’m like, ‘Alright, you’re going to fly to Poland and climb up a mountain in your underwear and sit in a frozen waterfall for 30 minutes.’”
Allin also gave his thoughts about his praise of Jon Moxley for being a locker room leader in AEW.
“I don’t know. I think pretty much anybody that leads by example. It sounds kind of strange, but I think Moxley. I think Moxley is that guy. When everybody was like, ‘Can someone else become world champion?’ — this guy is at every show. He’s there when it starts, he’s there when it closes. He’s got no ego and that’s why I see myself in him a lot still. You’ve got to lead by example and he will literally do anything. He’s there all the time, it’s great.”
In a separate recent interview with the My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox podcast, Allin gave his thoughts about the most painful Coffin Drop spot he has taken during his wrestling career.
“Oh, my God… I was filming at my house one time, I climbed a ladder and I set myself on fire and tried to, like, Coffin Drop off the ladder, but the ladder shook and then I… yeah, I’d say that probably was pretty bad. So it was outside of wrestling. Unfortunately, [it wasn’t filmed]. I was just messing around in my backyard that day.”
Allin also gave his thoughts about him not currently being interested in coaching or continuing a career in pro wrestling once his in-ring career is over.
“I do, but I don’t. I honestly just want to disappear from the world of wrestling [when his career is over]. I don’t want a whole lot to do with it when I’m retired from the in-ring. It’s fun to coach people, but I don’t think I would have the patience for it, with the egos and stuff.
I don’t know, I kind of want to just disappear from everything. I want to just live, like, a personal and private life. Make movies and just disappear. I don’t know, it just sounds fun. I don’t want to be one of these guys who’s clinging for the spotlight. Like, ‘Pay attention to me!’ It’s like, dude, I’m at peace with whatever.”
