In a recent interview with Puroresu-Today, Marigold owner Rossy Ogawa gave his thoughts about the recent talent departures and upcoming departures of other talents in the company over the course of 2025. Ogawa stated “Honestly, I don’t really think anything about those who decide to quit. It’s been the same… I’m not surprised. We’ve had these conversations many times before. But there’s no point in us stopping someone if they want to quit. Well, the grass is always greener on the other side, right? Well, there’s no point in pursuing (them)… There’s no point in saying anything. From that point, you just have to switch gears. That’s why I tell the wrestlers, ‘I want you to grow up (leave the nest) from me quickly.’ Then one wrestler says, ‘I’m staying here forever!’ (laughs). But that’s exactly it—I want us to become a promotion that keeps running even without me.“
During the same interview, Rossy Ogawa also gave his thoughts about Mayu Iwatani’s upcoming match against WWE talent IYO SKY at Marigold’s Grand Destiny 2025 event on October 26th and how it was SKY’s idea for that match to be put together. Ogawa stated ““Yes. After Ryogoku last year, we had a wrap-up party at a chanko restaurant. IYO came too. When I asked her, ‘If we were to do it again next year, who would you want to do it with?’ She said, ‘Mayu, of course.’” Ogawa also gave his thoughts about the reason why Marigold doesn’t try to bring in WWE talents more often for their shows is due to costs-related issues. Ogawa stated “Well, when you’re putting on a show at a huge venue like Ryogoku, it just has to feel special, right? In that sense, we needed more than just our regular Marigold roster; we needed guests. And, oddly enough, we’re one of the few promotions that can actually bring in WWE talent. That said, we don’t invite them all year round, as it does cost a fair amount of money. So, the main thing was, among the matches I wanted to see happen, Mayu Iwatani versus IYO SKY already has that history between them. I wanted fans to see them continue that legacy. It’s been seven and a half years since their last match, and their positions now are different too. So just imagining what kind of match it will be when these two, who have grown so much, face each other again after all this time… it’s exciting, right?“
