Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown on SI held a recent interview with Willow Nightingale. One of the topics discussed included Nightingale’s thoughts about Mercedes Mone’s recent success and how she is doing all it takes to become that person for AEW.
“I also think AEW has such a strong identity and I know so many people are rooting for the homegrowns and hey, listen, I root for us homegrowns too, but I think one of the key elements of All Elite Wrestling is passion and that is something that she just has pouring out of her. Do I want to be TBS Champion twelve belts person? Yeah, who doesn’t, right? We’re all doing this cause we want to be that. I can’t be angry that I’m not because she’s doing all it takes to be that person. She talks the talk and she walks the walk.”
Nightingale also gave her thoughts about her being interested in a potential rematch against Mone for the TBS Championship but her current focus is to win tag titles gold first.
“Hell yeah. I mean, listen, yes, but I gotta get some tag titles first.”
In a separate recent interview with SHAK Wrestling, Nightingale gave her thoughts about the first time she met Harley Cameron when they competed on AEW Dark and competing in Cameron’s first match in AEW.
“It’s been so cool, I have to say, like, before, like, getting to know her, anytime people are coming in to do work with us and, like, they’re not officially on our roster, you don’t really know anything about them. You kind of meet them that day. Then, bam, like, you just have to work together. So you never know their background or anything. But, like, immediately, Harley was just so warm and kind and, like, eager to do as best as possible from that very first day. I mean, she’ll tell you, she also has this message saved that is so cute that she sent me the other day. But it’s been so amazing to see her growth because she came in already, looks like a million bucks, has this beautiful singing voice, is a talented musician, ventriloquist extraordinaire, has comedy chops, all of these amazing things and is crushing it in the ring and constantly trying to get better. Like, so many of us have been doing this for, like, a decade, and that’s not something you could just learn overnight, but Harley is doing this on television and crushing it, and I don’t know that I would have been able to grow under the same pressure and stress, and I’m so happy to have that kind of strong-willed and like dedicated, hardworking person at my side.”
In another separate interview with The Sportster, Nightingale also gave her thoughts about her chemistry/synergy with Cameron in AEW and her praise of Cameron for being really accepting of her “wacky ideas” for their work together.
“Sometimes I have really wacky and off-the-wall ideas and a lot of people just kind of look at me like, ‘What?’ But even the other day, we did this thing in the ring, it was a silly little wiggle that we did and Harley was like, ‘Yeah, I’m into it.’ Something as simple as those bright colors that we have in our matching gear, not everybody’s going to be into that or be like, ‘Yeah, let’s do something bright and colorful.’ Along with everything that Harley was saying, it’s just more of that synergy.”
