WWE reportedly recently made a new executive hire to help lead the company’s transition into using artificial intelligence for both creative storytelling and production, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported that his sources stated that Cyrus Kowsari was hired by WWE this past September to be their new senior director of creative strategy. Prior to his hiring, Kowsari had worked for Asian-based MMA company ONE and also media outlet Buzzfeed.
Meltzer reported that WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque had introduced Kowsari to the creative staff as someone that would “lead WWE’s transition into AI-based storytelling and integrate AI into creative services like video and graphics.” Levesque stated at the meeting that this was an inevitable shift when it comes to creative in wrestling.
Meltzer also reported that Kowsari will be a White House liaison due to Levesque taking on more political-related duties such as his involvement in the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.
Meltzer also reported that WWE has already experimented with AI with a program called Writer Inc but this resulted in less than desirable early results. WWE reportedly used this platform to pitch a storyline “where Bobby Lashley, who I guess AI thought was still with the company, could come back as a wrestler who was obsessed with Japanese culture and history.” Those within WWE reportedly currently feel that once the bugs are worked out, AI will begin to have a major impact on storyline direction in the company.
Meltzer also reported that another unnamed promotion had also tried out using AI for their creative side but found whatever they were using couldn’t understand wrestling storylines and dropped the idea.
