Roman Reigns Comments on How He “Rewired” Himself For Live Action “Street Fighter” Filming & Him Studying Other WWE Stars For His Wrestling Career

A recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show podcast featured Roman Reigns as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Reigns’ thoughts about balancing being on the set for the live action “Street Fighter” film and his work for WWE.

“It was so busy going back and forth and trying to get through Paris and get to the point of getting down there. My kids are all in school right now. I didn’t get a chance to tap in with anybody. One thing I did do is when I was on Hobbs & Shaw, I was able to absorb everything and monitor and download as much of the process as possible. That helped me out a lot when I got down there. Also, things that I didn’t like about my experience or my attitude on the last project or two that I’ve done. Different ways to psychologically prepare myself for a different process. That was the biggest thing. I’m so used to my WWE bubble and that process. Being live, jetting in and jetting out, having the bus and my own creative space. I had to rewire myself to be ready for a different process. It was fun and a good time. There was one moment in time where I was like, ‘This is what being a movie star feels like.’ Being in that little bubble was cool. It’s interesting because everything I’ve learned in WWE and all these skills I’ve acquired and sharpened, they all translate.”

Reigns also gave his thoughts about him “taking pages from other people’s playbooks” for his studying of other WWE stars and using it to help his wrestling career.

“You take pages from people’s playbooks. You see somebody doing something seamlessly — ‘Oh, man.’ Like, you know, Brock, Cena, older guys than me like Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, all the way back to someone I didn’t get much time with, The Undertaker.

Everybody’s got something that they do. Just like, ‘Man, that’s so smart. Where did you figure that out?’ And then you just steal that. That’s all it is, just stealing plays. Like football, it’s copycat. You know what I mean? You just take what you like and make it your own, and then all of a sudden they’re singing your praises.”

In a recent interview with TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast, actor and indies wrestler Paul Walter Hauser gave his thoughts about his issues with WWE’s current five match model for their Premium Live Events. Hauser stated “The cons in WWE that I see other companies doing better would be giving more bang for your buck. This five match, $40 pay-per-view thing is garbage. Add two or three more matches. Also, you have guys and gals who would die to be on the card who aren’t. You have the money, duh, go do it. Make a better show, that’s not that hard. I’m not telling you to burn down your brick and mortar, I’m telling you to add menu items. It’s not going to kill you, figure it out.” Hauser also gave his thoughts about his issues with WWE’s increasing ticket prices for shows and them pricing out fans in favor of constant greed. Hauser stated “Times are tougher than they used to be but the prices are going up. There’s no real humanity from a corporate perspective whereas you can go to an AEW show or a MLW show for 15 to 40 bucks and have a decent seat. To me, that’s like Mr. Potter in It’s A Wonderful Life. You’re getting greedy and ugly, you’re being ugly by doing that. I understand, ‘Well, we have stockholders and shareholders.’ Yeah, be a real person, you dick. Be a real person. Do something.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Busted Open Radio podcast, NXT talent Blake Monroe gave her thoughts about if she had wanted to keep her “Mariah May” ring name when she joined WWE. Monroe stated “No. If you’re familiar with my prior name, I feel like it was the end of a story, and I cherish that. It’s kind of cool that she died and that’s done. Mariah is my real name, and I wish Ihad  never used that in wrestling because it’s weird. I did it and can’t change it. The chance to start something new, and with WWE, we’re going to make this new thing and make it a megastar. Week by week, we do that. I love it, and it’s a tribute to my niece. My niece is Blake. We used to watch WWE together and she’d jump on the bed and be so excited. When they said, ‘How would you feel about the name? Would you be open to changing it?’ I said, ‘I absolutely would.’ Monroe was the first wrestling name I ever wrote down. I still have it in a book and a screenshot from 2017. I didn’t start wrestling until 2020. I wanted to do Monroe as a first name. The more I thought about it, people don’t like the name because they think it’s boyish, but that’s why I like the name. I feel if you’re in a really intense feud, it’s like, ‘Monroe,” while ‘Blake’ is more serious. Blake is my niece and it’s unisex, and Monroe is so pretty, but a little gimmicky. I thought putting the two together was different. The name was a little controversial, which I like because people are talking about me.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
