AJ Styles on Him Doubting He Will Have Another Match in TNA, His “Somebody Doesn’t Want Me Here” Promo on 10/9 WWE RAW Show, Other Wrestlers Stealing His Moves, & His Belief on One Thing Modern Wrestling Is Missing

A recent episode of the No-Contest Wrestling podcast featured AJ Styles as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Styles’ thoughts about his doubts that he will have another match in TNA Wrestling for a dream match against current TNA World Champion Mike Santana before he retires from his in-ring career in 2026.

“I get it, man. I really do. I was hoping that this would happen, I really was but then I realized it probably never could as far as WWE letting me do that. I’ll tell you why. As soon as I open those gates for the main roster talent, now everyone is going to want to do it. I don’t know if it’s going to happen, if I’m being honest. I’d like to, don’t get me wrong. What a moment it was when I was able to go back, but I just don’t see that match — I don’t see any match happening as of right now.”

Styles also gave his thoughts about how he wishes that he could be the only WWE main roster star to wrestle in TNA.

“It’s NXT that has the partnership, not the main roster talent. Listen, I wish I could do it. I think I should be the only guy to do it, but that’s being very selfish. We’ll see what happens in the future, I don’t know necessarily. We’ll find out together.”

Styles also gave his thoughts about his cryptic promo segment on the September 9th episode of WWE RAW about him talking about “somebody doesn’t want me here” was meant to set up something for a storyline but he does not think it is going to happen.

“It was something I was trying to set up that I don’t think is going to happen. It’s not necessarily not true, but I’m not talking about Triple H. Let’s clear that up. But yeah, that’s all I can say about it.”

Styles also gave his thoughts about how he does not care if other wrestlers steal his moves for their matches and him viewing it more as him making an impact in the wrestling business where people have watched him and want to try to see if they can do the same.

“That’s cool. If guys are doing my moves, if girls are doing my moves, that’s awesome. I want them too. That just means that I’ve made an impact in the business where people have watched AJ Styles and go, ‘Freak, I’d like to try that. Let’s see if I can do that.’ I did the same thing, I was trying shooting star presses and 450s and all kinds of stuff like that because I saw other guys do it. If someone does the Styles Clash, I don’t care. Thank you for doing it, it means it’s impacted the wrestling world and that’s okay, I like that.”

Styles also gave his thoughts about his belief about the one thing that modern wrestling is currently missing.

“I can tell you the one thing that’s missing, and I still, to this day, I will go over my buddy’s house, before we work out, and we will watch old-school wrestling, it’s what we do. That’s kind of our thing. And the one thing that I think is missing the most is selling.

The way they used to sell back in the day, man, they really made you believe that this hurt, you know, that this guy’s in pain. And I just feel like we’ve gotten away from that, and I’m just as guilty as anybody. But if we could take it back and make [a] less is more kind of thing happen, I think that would be best for everybody.”

Styles also gave his thoughts about the one thing he is glad that are less common in modern wrestling compared to the past.

“You know what? After taking them for so many years, I’m glad chair shots are gone. I mean, you tried to find ways of making them hurt less by like jumping into it when he’s throwing it, you’re kind of putting your head into it so he doesn’t get a full swing.

But at the end of the day, it never feels good. And I’d love to tell you that chairs to the back feel good, but they don’t. Kurt Angle almost knocked my soul out of my body. I mean, there’s been some hits from a chair shot. They’re pretty strong — some guys swing ’em. And you got to. You got to.”
