As noted before, this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Fishers, Indiana featured the announcement of Darby Allin had suffered an injury and was hospitalized following his Continental Classic Gold League match with Kevin Knight on the November 26th Dynamite Thanksgiving Eve 2025 show. AEW is currently scheduled to provide an official update on Allin’s status for the Continental Classic tournament at this Saturday’s AEW Collision show.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Allin had suffered a legitimate head injury during his match against Knight. Meltzer reported that Allin’s injury was the result of a singular blow and not a case of wear and tear from all the stuff he has put his body through during matches over his career.
Meltzer also reported that Allin’s injury was not caused by Knight’s coast-to-coast dropkick spot and instead was caused by a different spot that he has yet to confirm if it was the one involving him taking a really bad looking fall.
In regards to Allin’s status in this year’s Continental Classic tournament, Meltzer reported that the current expectation is that if Allin is not medically cleared to compete, then Allin will be replaced by someone else for the remainder of his scheduled matches. Meltzer reported that this would be similar to what was done with Juice Robinson when he suffered an injury during last year’s tournament and was replaced with Komander.
Meltzer reported that if Allin is replaced, then AEW CEO Tony Khan would have two options which are he redoes his booking for the Gold League or just have this replacement person beat the people Allin was planned to beat and lose to the people Allin was planned to lose. This reportedly was how Komander was handled as Robinson’s replacement in last year’s tournament.
