Fightful held a recent interview with MJF. One of the topics discussed included MJF’s thoughts about him balancing his pro wrestling career with his new acting career.
“I love wrestling as much as I love acting. In some ways they go hand in hand, in other ways they don’t at all. But if you’re passionate about what you do and you believe in yourself, no matter how grueling a schedule is, you’ll make it work.”
MJF also gave his thoughts about how he still keeps in contact with Adam Sandler since his filming for Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 film.
“I FaceTimed with him literally a week ago. He’s basically my dad, it’s pretty wild. And he’s the nicest guy you’ll ever meet in the world.
He’s definitely a wrestling fan, but that’s not how I landed on his radar. What had happened was, I got an audition. And when I got the audition, I got the audition to play one of the evil golfers. And I filmed for the part, and my audition fell on Sandler’s lap. This what he told me after the fact — and he watched it and went, ‘Holy sh*t, this kid’s f*cking hilarious.’ And then somebody on his team smartened him up that I’m me. And he was like, ‘Oh, well let’s try him out to be one of my sons.’ And then I did a secondary audition round, and I got the part. So that’s what happened. He thought I was entertaining, and then later on found out that I’m one of the biggest names in the entire industry.”
MJF also gave his thoughts about comments made by WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart this past November about Hart saying he didn’t know who MJF was despite them being involved in a segment together at AEW’s Double or Nothing 2019 event.
“Look, the guy had a seizure. He got kicked in the fucking head. He’s old as fuck. Do I think it’s Bill Goldberg’s fault? Everything’s Bill Goldberg’s fault. Now, what I can tell you is a real story. Which makes it all the more funny that he said it, too. Now granted, Bret, much like me, is a troll. Do I think he actually doesn’t know who I am? Of course he fucking knows who I am. But one of my favorite things about that day is after I absolutely roasted him and ripped him a new asshole, he goes walking up the stage to get to the back. He fell because of Bill Goldberg, not because of Bret, because of Bill. Then I then try to search and find him to make sure he’s okay. I do. I say, ‘Are you okay, sir?’ and he looks at me and he goes, ‘Your promo.’ I go, ‘Yeah?’ He goes, ‘You’re real good.’ I go, ‘Yeah,’ and he goes, ‘You remind me of a guy I really fucking hated back in the day. I think anyone that’s watching this could put two and two together. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not Bill Goldberg. But yeah, do I blame him for it? No, he’s just fucking trolling, dude.”
MJF also gave his thoughts about his disagreement with Hart’s recent negative comments about Sheamus’ punches during his matches
“Look, if anyone who knows me and my Twitter knows that me and Sheamus actually had a tête-à-tête. Now, did I fucking also verbally assassinate him? Yes, that’s what I do. But I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that Sheamus doesn’t have great punches. That’s what he’s known for.”
MJF also gave his thoughts about the debate of Hart being the greatest wrestler of all time.
“Also, wrestling is all flavor of ice cream. Like, is Bret Hart incredible? Yes. Is he my personal, in my opinion, the greatest of all time? In my personal opinion, no. But that doesn’t mean he’s not fucking good at wrestling.”
