Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash 2025 show in Ralston, Nebraska featured Ricochet defeating Jungle Jack Perry to retain his AEW National Championship. This match was notable for The Demand’s Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun attacking Luchasaurus and sending him to the back and interfering to help Ricochet retain his title.
Following the match, Liona brought Luchasaurus back out to the stage and slammed a metal ring barricade onto his arm. Liona and Kaun continued their attack on Luchasaurus while Ricochet took out Perry with a Spirit Gun to prevent him from getting involved to save Luchasaurus.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that the reason for the storyline injury angle was due to Luchasaurus recently suffered a legitimate shoulder injury. It was reported that Luchasaurus is currently expected to “miss time in the ring.”
It was reported that the specific nature of Luchasaurus’ injury nor if he will need to undergo surgery is currently not known but he is expected to stay out of televised action. It was also reported that Luchasaurus’ tag team partner Perry is expected to continue to work as a singles star in his abscense.
