Saya Kamitani Taking Break From Wrestling for Rest of This January

As noted before, this past Sunday’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 event in Tokyo, Japan featured Syuri defeating Saya Kamiatani to become the new NJPW Strong Women’s Champion in a Title vs. Title match that also featured Syuri’s IWGP Women’s Championship being on the line.

Following the match, Kamitani announced in a post-match backstage press conference that she will be taking a break from in-ring wrestling for the rest of this month and will be returning this February.

“Got it. Today’s reason for defeat, the reason we lost. Saya-sama, it’s because you worked too hard. So, I’m going to take some paid leave starting tomorrow. I’m going to rest a bit, Okada (President), is that okay? I’m going to take a break for a while. There’s a match set with Starlight Kid on 2.7 in Osaka, but if it’s that kitten, it’ll be a breeze, right?”

In a follow-up announcement, Stardom confirmed on Monday that Kamitani will be taking a break and announced that she will be returning at their Supreme Fight in Osaka event on February 7th in Osaka, Japan.

Matt Hardy Comments on One Thing He Regrets About His In-Ring Style for His Wrestling Career

In a recent response to a fan on Twitter, Matt Hardy gave his thoughts about if he had any regrets about his in-ring style for his wrestling career.

“Yes. Biggest one being changing my style on house shows/live events. Jeff & I used to do our finish “Event OMEGA” (simultaneous legdrop/splash off opposite top ropes) every single night. Our schedule was 10 days on, 4 days off. WOULD NOT do the top rope legdrop every night again.”
