As noted before, David Finlay’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling is currently set to expire soon and will be exploring options for the future of his wrestling career. Finlay gave an emotional farewell to the crowd at this past Wednesday’s The New Beginning in Osaka 2026 event in Osaka, Japan hinting he will be leaving NJPW after The New Beginning USA 2026 event later this month. WWE has been interested in signing Finlay to a potential contract once he becomes available.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Finlay’s contract with NJPW had expired and he is currently officially a free agent.
Despite his expired contract, it was reported that NJPW is “actively” trying to re-sign Finlay to a new contract.
Besides WWE, it was also reported that AEW is currently believed to be interested in Finlay and potentially having him join up with Clark Connors following speculation of Connors recently signing with the company.
Prior to his expired contract, Finlay has been with NJPW since 2015 and was the last official leader of the Bullet Club stable.
