Lucha Libre AAA reportedly will be bringing back their Lucha Libre World Cup event for this year, according to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select.
It was reported that their sources stated that AAA currently has scheduled for this year’s event to take place on May 30th at the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. It was also reported that AAA and WWE officials currently have this upcoming event scheduled to be held as a Premium Live Event (PLE) rather than as a television taping.
It is currently not known if this upcoming event will follow a similar format as this Saturday’s Rey de Reyes 2026 that will be airing live for its first hour and the remaining two hours to be taped for the following weeks episodes of AAA TV on FOX Latin America. Nor is it known if this upcoming event will air in full instead similar to WWE’s recent Worlds Collide events with AAA.
In regards to the status of WWE’s plans for AAA TV tapings in the United States, it was reported that these plans currently are in a flux. It was also reported that at one point, a taping had been internally listed to take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.
AAA last held a Lucha Libre World Cup event in 2023 and this tournament typically features three-person teams competing in a singles-elimination tournament.
