Midnight Express Founding Member Dennis Condrey Passes Away at Age 74

Dennis Condrey passed away on Friday at the age of 74.

Condrey’s passing was first announced by FTR’s Dax Harwood on Instagram. A GoFundMe fundrasier was recently launched to help finaicially assist Condrey’s family with the funeral costs.

Condrey’s pro wrestling career spanned from 1974 to 2011 and was most known for being a founding member of the original tag team Midnight Express. Condrey formed the original team with “Ravishing” Randy Rose and Norvell Austin in 1980 and this version of the group ran until its breakup in 1983 after Condrey went to Mid-South Wrestling. During his time in Mid-South, Condrey would form a new version of the group with “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton and manager Jim Cornette.

Following his departure from Jim Crockett Promotions in 1987, Condrey reunited with Rose and formed a new version of the group in AWA and would later work together in WCW with Paul E. Dangerously as their manager. Condrey’s group feuded with Eaton, Cornette, and “Sweet” Stane Lane during his time in WCW. This feud abruptly ended in 1989 following Condrey’s departure from the company.

Condrey would eventually retire from his wrestling career in 2011 and later made an appearance in AEW in 2023 when he was brought in for a tribute given to him by CM Punk and FTR.

Condrey’s notable career achievements and accolades included being a one-time AWA World Tag Team Champion, one-time NWA Georgia Heavyweight Champion, one-time NWA Wold Tag Team Champion (Mid-Atlantic), a two-time Mid-South Tag Team Champion, and inductions into the NWA (2028), Memphis Wrestling (2017), and Professional Wrestling (2019) Hall of Fames
