Carmelo Hayes Comments on Him Not Being on WrestleMania 42 & Staying Patient

As noted before, the March 27th episode of WWE SmackDown featured Sami Zayn defeating Carmelo Hayes in an Open Challenge match to become the new WWE United States Champion. Following Zayn’s victory, it was announced that Zayn would be defending his title against Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42. Zayn’s victory led to some negative backlash towards him and WWE over Hayes being left off the card of WrestleMania 42.

A recent episode of the Nightcap podcast featured Hayes as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Hayes’ thoughts about how he handles not being on the card for WrestleMania 42 and him staying patient in waiting for his opportunity.

“I feel like I stay ready, and knowing that I’m talented enough that if they give the ball, it’s guaranteed. That’s what my mentality has always been. Success is not earned, it’s given. I feel like that’s a lot in WWE. Anybody, really. Until they give you the ball, how do you know who can score? Until they put you on the field, how do they know that you can make a play? That’s really what it comes down to with what we do, waiting for the ball or to put you in.”
