Callum Newman Issues Tag Team Challenge with IWGP Heavyweight Title Implications for 5/6 New Japan Road – Ignition to Dominion Event

Monday’s NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night 2 event in Fukuoka, Japan featured Callum Newman defeating Shingo Takagi to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

This match was notable for a post-match segment involving Newman attacking Yota Tsuji after Tsuji came to the ring to attend to Takagi. Newman then demanded a reluctant Will Ospreay to also attack Takagi, which Ospreay refused at first until Newman taunted him calling him a “Death Rider” in reference to him questioning Ospreay’s loyalty with United Empire. An angry Ospreay then attacked Takagi laying him out.

Newman then grabbed a microphone and went up to Tsuji and Takagi’s fallen bodies and issued a challenge for NJPW’s New Japan Road – Ignition to Dominion event this Wednesday. Newman issued a tag team match of him and Jake Lee against Tsuji and Takagi with the stipulation of if United Empire wins, then Tsuji and Takagi can never challenge for his IWGP Heavyweight title again as long as he is champion. Newman stated that if either of them can pin him and win, then he will grant that person a shot at his title at this June’s Dominion 2026 event.
