NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night 2 Notes: SANADA Makes Surprise Return & Attacks Konosuke Takeshita, Mistico & El Desperado Wins IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles, Will Ospreay & United Empire Wins NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Titles

SANADA Makes Surprise Return & Attacks Konosuke Takeshita

Monday’s NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night 2 event at the Fukuoka Convention Center in Fukuoka, Japan featured SANADA making his surprise return to NJPW.

Following Konosuke Takeshita defeating Chase Owens to retain the NJPW World Television Championship, the lights went out and a video played on the big screen showing a mystery masked man. This was the same masked man who had showed up with Owens at this past April’s Sakura Genesis 2026 event. This masked man had briefly confronted Takeshita before walking away.

After the lights went back on, this mystery masked man appeared in the ring and attacked Takeshita. This mystery person took off his mask revealing himself to be SANADA.

This was SANADA’s first appearance in NJPW since this past January’s New Year Dash 2026 event.

Mistico & El Desperado Wins IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles

Monday’s NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night 2 event also featured Mistico & El Desperado defeating Ichiban Sweet Boys to become the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.

This was Mistico and El Desperado’s first-ever as a team, Mistico’s first ever, and El Desperado’s fifth ever IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles victories in their NJPW careers.

Will Ospreay & United Empire Wins NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Titles

Monday’s NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026 Night 2 event also featured United Empire (Great-O-Khan, HENARE, & Will Ospreay) defeating Bishamontin (Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI, & Boltin Oleg) to become the new NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions.

Following the match, Great-O-Khan grabbed a microphone and proclaimed that United Empire was taking all the gold and announced they were aiming for the IWGP Tag Team Championship next. This led to the Knockout Brothers (Yuto-Ice & Oskar) coming out to the ring and after some banter between Great-O-Khan and Yuto-Ice, Yuto-Ice accepted the challenge for their tag titles.

This was Ospreay, HENARE, and Great-O-Khan’s first ever NEVER Openweight Tag Team Championship victory in their NJPW careers.
