The Daily Star held a recent interview with Mercedes Mone. One of the topics discussed included Mone’s thoughts about the freedom she has in AEW compared to her past experience in WWE.
“It’s been amazing. It’s been so rewarding for me and just kind of freeing. I’ve always wanted that feeling of feeling free. And I feel like this has been the best I’ve ever been able to perform because I have that capability and that ability to have that freedom of just — whether that’s putting matches together and performing differently or having a different mindset or not having people tell you ‘no’ or being scared to tell something and then you will be told no. It’s just a freedom. And I’m very happy to be here, and I hope that shows in my work. But, yeah, I think it shows in my matches how free I feel and how great I feel in AEW.”
Mone also gave her thoughts about her belief that AEW has the best women’s division “ever” and she loves stepping into the ring with everyone else on the roster. Mone also gave her thoughts about how the competition that exists has caused everyone pushing each other to be the best they can be.
Mone also gave her thoughts about how she feels like she is still constantly leaning and growing for her wrestling career and to avoid getting passed by.
“I feel like I’m never going to stop learning and growing. I feel like that’s the main thing, is not being content and not being like, ‘I know everything.’ I don’t know everything. And I still want to learn. And we have so many people that I get to learn from. So it’s still for me is wanting to learn and wanting to grow and wanting to be better. And not being like, ‘Okay, I’m the best women’s wrestler. Now what?’ No, I’m the best women’s wrestler and I still have to prove that every single day. Because these women are coming after me and coming into this business every single day.”
Mone also gave her thoughts about the possibility of her and Bayley meeting in the ring again and in AEW and how she always considers Bayley as a dream match opponent for her.
“You never know in wrestling. That’s always a dream match for me, that is to have another match with her. She is one of my greatest opponents of all time. Of course, everybody knows one of our greatest matches together, [NXT TakeOver] Brooklyn, that’s really changed the way people viewed women’s wrestling. But, yeah, it’s always a dream match for me. It’s always a dream match for me. So, you never know.”
