MJF Turns Down Ryohei Oiwa’s Invitation To Participate In NJPW G1 Climax 2027 Tournament After Proclaiming Himself As Being “Superior Headlock Wrestler”

As noted before, this Sunday’s NJPW G1 Climax 2026 Finals event in Tokyo, Japan featured Ryohei Oiwa defeating Yuya Uemura in the Finals to become the winner of this year’s G1 Climax tournament. This match was notable for Oiwa wearing down Uemura with repeated headlock holds for the submission victory. Oiwa has been using a headlock to wear down his opponents in his matches of late to either get them to tap out or transition it into The Grip lariat finisher for his victories.

AEW’s MJF recently responded on Twitter about Oiwa’s victory proclaiming himself as being the superior headlock wrestler.

“I’m the superior headlock wrestler.”

During Monday’s NJPW post-G1 Climax 2026 press conference (via Tokyo Sports) in Japan, Oiwa was asked about MJF’s tweet and responded offering an invitation to MJF to participate in next year’s G1 Climax tournament.

“Well then, why don’t you bring that headlock and come up to next year’s G1? When that happens, I’ll take the title with a headlock myself.”

MJF responded on Twitter declining the invitation and insulted Oiwa calling him a dork and someone who would be lucky to lace his boots let alone meet him in a ring.

“Tell that fucking dork Oiwa he’d be lucky to lace my boots let alone meet me in a ring… About as much of a fake tough guy as Andrade, Ospreay and omega.”

In response to a fan on Twitter saying he would not do the G1 Climax tournament, MJF responded stating:

“You’re right, I won’t.

People who do that do it to prove they are the best in the world.

I got nothing to prove.

I already am.”
