Mercedes Martinez Suffers Torn ACL Injury During Retirement Tour & Announces End of Her In-Ring Wrestling Career

As noted before, former WWE and AEW talent Mercedes Martinez announced this past January that 2026 would be the final year of her full-time in-ring wrestling career.

Martinez provided an update on Thursday on Instagram stating that she had suffered a knee injury on August 15th and was recently informed that she had torn her ACL. As a result of her injury, Martinez officially announced the end of her in-ring wrestling career.

Martinez had been wrestling since November of 2000.

WWE & AAA Reportedly Had Plans For Live AAA Show To Take Place At Hammerstein Ballroom This November

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that WWE and Lucha Libre AAA officials had plans at one point for a live AAA show and tapings to take place on November 14 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in new York City, New York.

It was reported that one source at the venue stated that the date for this planned live show has been removed from the internal calendar.

Misc. Wrestling News & Notes

Video game developer Rockstar held an extended preview event that aired on Netflix for their upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 video game. During the extended trailer, backyard wrestling was shown to be one of the features for the game. This would be the first time that wrestling would be included in a GTA game in GTA series history.

The National Wrestling Alliance recently announced that they will be returning to Riot Fest for this year’s collection of music and pro wrestling events from September 18-20 in Chicago, Illinois.

Deadline reported that the upcoming new film Guarding Stars is currently scheduled to be released on November 18th on Netflix. This upcoming new film is an adaptation of Katherine Center’s novel titled “The Bodyguard” and features CM Punk among its cast. The synopsis for the novel is “A no-nonsense bodyguard is assigned to protect a charming action star over the holidays, leading sparks to fly and secrets to unravel, with Christmas getting a whole lot more complicated.”

Indie promotion Enjoy Wrestling recently announced that they will be shutting down following their final set of events from August 30 to October 4. Prior to the announcement, Enjoy Wrestling has been holding wrestling events since 2020 and is based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
