Video: Last Week’s Show Recap

We look at everything that has led us to tonight’s episode.

Zilla Fatu will sign his NXT contract tonight.

In-Ring: Cruz Montana, Rey Fenix

Cruz Montana made his way through the crowd to the ring.  He called out Zilla Fatu.  He said that when he came to NXT, he didn’t com to fill a spot but to take one, and that meant he was coming for the NXT title.  Now, Zilla gets to add himself to Cruz’s list.  Had he not interfered, Cruz would be the top contender to the NXT title.  He’s not allowing Zilla to come and take what is his.  He’s a loud and proud boriqua from The Bronx.  He was told Zilla isn’t here yet.

Rey Fenix’s music played and he came to the ring.  The AAA Cruiserweight Champion said he was just here to find out who he was going to defend against, but if someone cost him a title shot, he’d be ready for them too.  Cruz said they battled in AAA, TNA and the indies, but he has respect for him and will give him the ring.  He said the NXT parking lot is the most dangerous place in NXT and he’ll be out there waiting for Zilla Fatu.

AAA World Cruiserweight Championship #1 Contender Fatal Four-way Match
EK Prosper vs. La Parka vs. Romeo Moreno vs. Tristan Angels

Moreno and Prosper started the match at a stalemate. Prosper caught Mr. England with a dive, while Moreno caught Prosper with a PK. Moreno then dropkicked Prosper, causing him to DDT Parka. Angels dumped both Prosper and Moreno to ringside. Parka answered with knee strikes and a dropkick on Angels before giving Moreno a flapjack.  Prosper hit Parka with a thrust kick before planting Moreno with an Atomic Drop. Prosper then kicked off Moreno’s chest and hit Parka with a moonsault. Moreno dumped all three opponents to ringside and followed up by hitting Angels and Prosper with a dive to ringside. Parka then took out all three opponents with a top-rope Triangle Moonsault.

Angels and Moreno made it back into the ring, where Angels chopped Moreno in the corner. Angels followed with a suplex as the pace of the match slowed considerably. A clothesline put Moreno on his back before Prosper flew into the ring. Angels caught him, but Prosper escaped. Angels then hit Prosper with a backstabber before La Parka chopped him into the corner. Angels hit La Parka with a backstabber as well, earning a two-count.

Angels put La Parka’s face into the turnbuckle before countering a Moreno attack with an enzuigiri. Prosper came in and stunned Angels with a back kick, but La Parka followed with a crossbody. Moreno then hit a missile dropkick on La Parka and Prosper, leaving all four competitors down on the mat.

Prosper used Angels as a springboard to hit a DDT on Moreno. Angels answered with an uppercut and a second-rope suplex. Moreno interrupted the exchange with a rolling suplex on Angels. Moreno went up top, but La Parka met him there and hit a giant Spanish Fly. Prosper broke up the ensuing count with a frog splash.

Prosper, Moreno, and Angels traded superkicks, with Moreno collapsing on top of a prone Prosper. La Parka broke up the pin attempt. Angels set up Moreno, but Prosper flew in and took out Angels before hitting Moreno with a moonsault from the top rope to win the match.

Winner: EK Prosper via Pinfall.

He will face Rey Fenix next Tuesday.  They shook hands in the ring.

Backstage: WrenQCC, The Vanity Project

Kendal Grey and Wren Sinclair were psyching each other up for their match later tonight.  Vanity Project showed up, with Brad Baylor trying to flirt with Grey. Wren took the opportunity to brag about NQCC defeating Vanity Project for the titles.  Jackson Drake declared that he would beat Shiloh Hill. Grey countered by saying Hill was good with tools, prompting Wren to fire back that Vanity Project looked like tools.  Wren and Grey walked away.  Myka Lockwood told Jackson Drake to lock in and prove them wrong.

Thea Hail vs. Nattie

Nattie went right after Hail and driled her with a series of strikes on the mat.  Hail came back with a Lou Thesz Press and fired away with shots.  Hail nailed a dive to the outside, taking out Nattie and her cohorts.    Hail pulled Nattie back into the ring and went on the attack with a series of stomps. She began working over Nattie’s arm, but Nattie dodged an attack and put Hail in a surfboard. Hail tried to counter, but Nattie’s legs shoved her into the ropes. Nattie followed with a snapmare before pulling Hail back up by the hair.  Hail countered a suplex attempt into an inside cradle, but Nattie kicked out and dropped her with a discus lariat. Nattie then applied an abdominal stretch, but Hail planted her foot and shoved Nattie off. Hail looked for the Kimura Lock, but Nattie countered and sent her into the corner.

Hail came back out and the two traded rollups. Nattie went for the Sharpshooter, but Hail escaped and sent her into the corner with an exploder suplex. Hail followed with a blockbuster as Cruz Montana was shown wandering around the parking lot, seeking Zilla.  Hail landed a headbutt and a powerslam before missing a springboard attack. Hail then locked in a Kimura, but Nattie powered up and slammed her way out of the hold. Nattie locked in the Sharpshooter, forcing Hail to tap out.

Winner: Nattie via Submission.

Nattie and friends forced Jaida Parker to watch at Nattie placed Hail back into the Sharpshooter.

Backstage: OTM

In the Locker room Playset, Lucien Price and Bronco Nima discussed his Speed Title Match against Lexis King. They both think that Price should win.

WWE Speed Men’s Championship
Lucien Price vs. Lexis King (c)

Price superkicked King as he was handing off his hat and almost scored the pin.  King tried to run out the clock but going to the floor but was caught.  He escaped again and hid behind the other members of Birthright.   He kept returning and exiting the ring.  Price caught him and tossed King back into the ring.    King caught Price with a superkick, but Price answered by catching a running King with a lariat while on one knee. King then hit Price with a DDT for a two-count. Price caught King’s roundhouse attempt and countered with another lariat before planting him with a Uranage with under a minute on the clock.  Stacks and Grace distracted the referee, allowing the others to trip Price. King capitalized on the interference, hitting Price with a twisting neckbreaker to score the victory.

Winner: Lexis King via Pinfall to retain the WWE Speed Men’s Championship.

Birthright attacked Price after the bout.  Bronco Nima made the save and embraced Price.

In-Ring: Grayson Waller, Tony D’Angelo, Cruz Montana, Robert Stone

Grayson Waller came out and cut a promo, saying that rather than TikTok tough guys stepping up to try and stop him, he had to deal with another Samoan trying to take the food off his table last week.  Waller said he wasn’t afraid of Zilla Fatu’s family, claiming that growing up in Western Sydney meant he had been fighting Uce’s his entire life. Since none of the Uce’s could “wrap it up,” Waller said, another Samoan had shown up to try to take something from him.  Waller said he was actually happy that Zilla had gotten his house-arrest ankle monitor removed and could roam free. However, he warned that Zilla had picked the wrong night, the wrong guy, and the wrong time. Waller declared that no one could handle this version of Grayson Waller and argued that he should be the number one contender.

NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo interrupted Waller and said that whoever becomes the contender, he would keep knocking everyone down. Tony D said they could come from TNA, WWE, or the “island of irrelevancy,” but he would still knock everyone on their ass.  Cruz Montana then appeared at the top of the bleachers. Montana said he had been waiting for Zilla and wondered if he had “spun the block” too hard on Waller, considering Waller had already been laid out before Zilla interfered. Cruz then proposed that he and Waller finish their business from the previous week.

NXT GM Robert Stone came out and reminded everyone that Zilla wasn’t under a WWE contract yet.  Stone announced that he would book Tony D’Angelo vs. Grayson Waller vs. Cruz Montana for the NXT Championship at Heatwave. Stone added that he would handle Zilla Fatu when he arrived.

Backstage: Lizzy Rain, Shiloh Hill, Myles Borne

Lizzy Rain and Shiloh Hill were chatting backstage when Myles Borne interrupted. Borne told Hill that he deserved some sort of reward if he could win his next match. He revealed that he had spoken with Robert Stone, and if Hill could defeat Jackson Drake, he would earn an NXT North American Championship opportunity. Hill was hyped by the news and thanked Borne.

Backstage: Robert Stone, Keanu Carver, Kam Hendrix

Back from break, Robert Stone was on the phone confirming Fatu was coming to work and discovered Keanu Carver in his office. Carver mentioned that another new guy was getting a shot before him. He then offered Stone a coffee, very aggressively. Then Kam Hendrix came in, Carver left and then the segment crashed to a halt.

WrenQCC (Wren Sinclair & Kendal Grey) vs. Kelani Jordan & Kali Armstrong

Sinclair and Jordan started things off, with Sinclair grabbing a headlock. She sent Jordan into the corner with a dropkick before Armstrong grabbed a blind tag. Armstrong came charging in, but Sinclair drop-toed her and sent her into the ropes.  Grey tagged in and leapt over the ropes with a double stomp. She followed with an amateur-style takedown attempt, but Jordan fought back, leading to a series of bridging pin attempts. Sinclair came in for a double-team.  They took out both Jordan and Armstrong, sending them to the outside for stereo dives from the top turnbuckles.

Back in the ring, Sinclair and Grey double-teamed Jordan, with Sinclair remaining the legal competitor and scoring a two-count. Armstrong then kicked Sinclair through the ropes, allowing Jordan to send her into the corner for a series of high kicks and face bouncing. Armstrong and Jordan isolated Sinclair in their corner, making frequent tags and hitting quick pins in an attempt to wear her down.  Armstrong knocked Grey off the apron before spearing Sinclair in the corner. She held Sinclair in place while Jordan came off the top with an axe-handle. Sinclair began throwing wild punches as she desperately tried to reach Grey for the tag. Armstrong trapped her in an elbow lock before slamming her to the mat and setting her up for a springboard moonsault from Jordan.

Sinclair finally dodged the attack and managed to make the hot tag to Grey, who took out both Jordan and Armstrong with suplexes. Grey followed with gutwrench and German suplexes until her balance gave out. She recovered enough to lock Armstrong in an ankle lock, but Armstrong sent Grey headfirst into the turnbuckle.  Armstrong went for a powerslam, but Grey rolled through and managed to tag Sinclair. Sinclair fired off clotheslines at Jordan and went for a DDT, but Jordan escaped. Armstrong tagged herself in, but Jordan appeared to ignore her and went for a cover. The referee sent Jordan out of the ring, allowing Armstrong to take over.  Sinclair blocked a piledriver attempt and transitioned into a submission, but Jordan broke it up. Grey then flew across the ring and sent both opponents stumbling to the outside. Jordan tripped Grey, sending her headfirst into the steel steps.  Back in the ring, Armstrong hit Sinclair with a massive Kali Connection and scored the pinfall victory.

Video: Dion Lennox, Saquon Shugars

According to commentary, Robert Stone is fed up with Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox being at each other’s throats. So they had a meeting via zoom, even though they were both clearly in the Warehouse Playset. They talked trash to each other and Shugars said that Lennox couldn’t beat him with out DarkState’s help.

Then, out of nowhere, Shugars said “How about you see me in a steel cage?” Lennox suggested that they add weapons. Shugars said that they should do it next week. Lenox agreed and said that this is where their story ends, with the sun setting on Saquon Shugars.

Shiloh Hill vs. Jackson Drake

Hill charged straight for Drake, who scrambled through the ropes to force a break. Drake shoved a palm into Hill’s face, only to get smacked across the ring in response. Baylor distracted the referee, allowing Ricky Smokes to suckerpunch Hill from the outside. While Drake kept the official occupied, Baylor and Smokes capitalized, beating down Hill on the floor before rolling him back inside. Drake covered immediately, but only managed a two count.  Hill fired back with stiff open-palm strikes, briefly knocking Drake back, but Drake quickly capitalized on a opening by snapping Hill’s throat across the top rope. With the rest of The Vanity Project prowling the ringside area, Drake locked in a tight headlock, grinding his forearm directly into Hill’s targeted face. Drake followed up with a sharp back elbow, reapplied the headlock, and then landed a face-targeting dropkick for another nearfall.

Driven by desperation, Hill mounted a rally with heavy strikes, though Drake cut him off with a second dropkick. Drake attempted a cutter, but Hill sniffed it out, levelling him with a stiff clothesline. Hill seized the momentum, stringing together a big boot, a powerslam, and a crushing standing senton for a close two count.  Drake attempted to reclaim control with a springboard moonsault, but Hill caught him mid-air with a punch. Myka stepped in to cause a distraction. This time, however, the referee caught Smokes and Baylor attempting to ambush Hill and ejected the entire group from ringside. Before the faction could make their exit, Hill scaled the ropes and wiped out the entire field with a dive over the top.   Myka carried the others out.

Back inside, Hill landed a shoulder block and perched himself on the top turnbuckle. Drake rushed to cut him off, joining him on the ropes. Hill dished out a headbutt that sent Drake tumbling back and colliding directly into the referee and knocking him out.  With the official out, Naraku arrived and blinded Hill with a cloud of poison mist. Blinded and reeling, Hill fell prey to a springboard 450 splash from Drake, who secured the pinfall victory.

Winner: Jackson Drake via Pinfall.

Backstage: Robert Stone, Zaria, Kali Armstrong

The architect of all this madness, Robert Stone was in his office talking to Zaria about her match at Heatwave against Wren Sinclair to unify the Women’s North American and Speed Titles (somehow). His solution: no clocks. So not really a Speed match for the Speed title.

Any-hoo, in walked Kali Armstrong who wanted to know what she gets for pinning Speed Champion Sinclair earlier in the show. Zaria said that after Heatwave, there won’t be a Speed title. Armstrong body shamed Zaria and got in her face, so Robert Stone did what he does and made a match for next week: Zaria vs Armstrong and if Armstrong wins, the unification match becomes a Triple Threat at Heatwave. Genius!

In-Ring: Robert Stone, Zilla Fatu, Tony D’Angelo, Grayson Waller, Cruz Montana

-Back from break, Zilla Fatu finally made it to work (they sent a car for him and everything, why is he so late?) to sign his contract so that he can officially become an NXT Superstar and definitely not be added to the title match at Heatwave.

Robert Stone was in the ring and introduced Fatu. Zilla arrived in one of The Rock’s old shirts to a pretty good theme song, I have to say, complete with chantable “Zilla” intro. It occurred to me here that Fatu looks like a very jacked Bruno Mars. That’s not important, but I wanted to mention it.

Tony D’Angelo then appeared on the Balcony Above The Wall People Get Thrown Through Playset and watched as Fatu took the mic and said how exctied he was to finally be signing a WWE/NXT contract. He said that his goal is show everyone he’s not another “nympho” baby (nepo? He must have meant nepo).

Then Grayson Waller came in from the entrance ramp and Cruz Montana started stomping in through the audience. Stone got on the mic and calmed everyone down by saying that as per the contract, Fatu’s first NXT match will be a title match. Then you’ll never guess what happened: They all agreed to let bygones be bygones and went home.

NO! This is wrestling and they finally got to the fireworks factory and made it a four-way for the NXT Title at Heatwave, Fatu vs Waller vs Montana vs D’Angelo. Did you know that means that D’Angelo doesn’t even have to get pinned to lose the title? What a swerve!

The show closed with everyone yelling at each other from different parts of the Live Broadcast Studio Playset.
