In-Ring: Kevin Owens, CM Punk, Gunther, Finn Balor, Nick Aldis

WWE SmackDown kicks off with Kevin’s music and Kevin Owens comes down to the ring.

He says this was not the way he wanted to go to Ottawa. He says that in the last 12 years, he lost many WWE Championship matches but none of them felt as bad to lose as the one in Toronto. Owens says that Friday, everything was perfect. He says he spent 17 months not knowing if he would get back in the ring but when he heard that he was cleared, he got in the ring as soon as he could. He was told it would take about four weeks but he did it in nine days to be at SummerSlam because he wanted to be in that number one contender’s match. He wanted to go to Toronto and win the WWE Championship not just because he wanted to do it in Toronto in front of other Canadians but the real reason he picked Toronto was because he knew that his parents would be able to be at that show. He says that two years ago, in Toronto, he told everyone that everyone was rushed to the hospital and was fighting for her life. Owens says that thankfully she kicked out, she made it out and is still there but since then, travelling has been a lot more difficult for her. He says going to shows was nearly impossible but on Friday, they drove from Montreal to Toronto and all he wanted was to win that title in front of her. But Sami Zayn made sure he wouldn’t do that.

Owens says that he and Zayn have done a lot of messed up stuff in their careers, he is not innocent, he put him through a lot. But this time he can’t forget it, he can’t forgive it because it wasn’t just about winning the title. He won’t get another title where the stars aligned, in Toronto, in front of Canadian fans, in front of his family and getting to beat CM Punk for the WWE title. He tells Zayn that he will deal with him when the time comes but CM Punk, everyone knows, he knows that he had him beat, he was better than the best in the world. But Punk got lucky and capitalized on Zayn’s actions but to know this. If Punk thinks they are done, he is dead wrong, they are just getting started. He will not stop until he takes that title from him.

Out comes CM Punk. He says he doesn’t need Zayn’s help, he had him beat with the GTS. Out comes Nick Aldis who gets in between them. Gunther’s music hits and out he comes. He says if he keeps listening to that, his ears will start to bleed. But he thinks he figured it out what it is with them, why they hate each other so much. Because when they look at each other, what they see is their arrogant, obnoxious, opinionated self. When they are out, arguing about stuff that happened 20 years ago, he is there to remind them what matters now.

Gunther tells Owens that he is glad his mom kicked out but too bad on Friday, Owens didn’t. Finn Balor’s music hits and out he comes. Balor tells them they are forgetting about someone. Gunther introduces Balor as the ghost of Finn Balor and he laughs. Balor tells him to shut up. He says he thinks he talks for everyone when he says they are all getting tired of his act. He tells Owens that he loves him but he got his chance. Balor says Gunther and Owens have never beaten him and the line starts with him.

Nick Aldis says there is nothing more to discuss. He tells Owens, Gunther and Balor that they can face each other tonight in a number one contender’s match.

Backstage: Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton

We cut to the back and Chelsea Green is with Tiffany Stratton. She asks Green if she is sure she wants to go out there tonight and Chelsea says she is sure. She says she appreciates it but after everything they have been through, she won’t leave her out there alone, she will be there by her side. She tells Tiffany that she will meet her out there and Tiffany walks out.

The Irresistible Forces (Lash Legend & Nia Jax) vs. Tiffany Stratton & Chelsea Green

The bell rings and we are under way. Green is wearing a protective face mask. Tiffany and Legend start the match. Legend with a waist lock but Tiffany rolls out of it. Tiffany with a drop kick. She runs to the ropes but Legend grabs her and hits her with a back breaker. She goes for the cover but Tiffany kicks out. Legend goes for a right hand onto Chelsea but she moves out of the way. Tiffany with a stunner and Green is tagged in. Green with a neck breaker and Nia is tagged in. Tiffany and Green with a double drop kick onto Nia. Green to the ropes and goes for a cross body but Nia grabs her. Green lands on her feet and Green with a kick to the side of the head. She grabs Nia but Nia with a headbutt to the face. Green grabs her face and Tiffany is tagged in.

Back from commercial, Legend and Tiffany are in the ring. Legend goes for the cover but Green breaks it up. Nia gets in the ring and a knee to the face onto Green. Out come the medical team and Green rolls to the outside of the ring. Legend with a bear hug but Tiffany gets out of it. Tiffany with right hands but Legend with a right hand. She goes for the cover but Tiffany kicks out. Nia is tagged in and she throws Tiffany into the corner. Nia goes for a splash but Tiffany moves out of the way. Tiffany with right hands. Tiffany to the ropes but Nia with a clothesline. She goes for the cover but Tiffany kicks out. Legend is tagged back in. Legend with a bear hug and Nia is tagged in. Nia on the second rope and she goes for a leg drop but Tiffany moves out of the way. Tiffany with a reverse DDT onto Legend. Tiffany goes for the tag but Chelsea is on the ramp. Chelsea runs onto the ring apron and tags herself in. Green climbs the top rope and lands a drop kick onto Nia. She throws Legend to the outside. Nia on the ring apron and Green with a drop kick. Nia to the outside of the ring. Green climbs the top rope and Green with a cross body. She throws Nia back into the ring. Tiffany goes for a hurricanrana onto Legend but she catches Tiffany and throws her onto the barricade. That distracts Green. Nia with a right hand and a Samoan drop. Nia with the Annihilator. She goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: The Irresistible Forces via Pinfall.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, Danhausen, Gunther

We cut to the back and Nick Aldis is speaking on the phone. In comes Danhausen. They shake hands and Danhausen tells him he can be the employee of the month. In comes Gunther and Danhausen says he has been waiting forever to meet him. He goes to shake his hand but Gunther ignores him. Gunther says for the main event, he confirms with Aldis that it’s a triple threat. He says it feels great but he doesn’t appreciate the fact that he has to jump through hoops to prove himself to Kevin Owens and the ghost of Finn Balor. Aldis tells him it’s a triple threat, may the best man win. Gunther looks at Danhausen and walks away. Danhausen asks Aldis if he said ghost and Aldis says it’s a figure of speech. He asks Aldis if he can add him to the match and Aldis tells him no.

WWE Women’s United States Championship
Paige vs. Jacy Jayne (c)

The bell rings and we are under way. Paige with a kick to the face and a headbutt. She throws Jayne onto the ring apron. Paige with knees to the face and Jayne falls to the outside of the ring. Paige to th eoutside and she throws Jayne back into the ring. Jayne distracts the referee and Reid with a kick to the face.

Back from commercial, both with a double clothesline. Jayne with right hands and Paige with right hands. Jayne with a kick to the side of the head. Jayne to the ropes but Paige with a clothesline. Paige with a fisherman’s suplex and a German suplex. Paige with the Paige Turner. She goes for the cover but Jayne kicks out. She grabs Jayne but Jayne with a super kick. She grabs Paige but Paige with a headbutt. Paige goes for the RamPaige but Reid gets on the ring apron. Paige throws Jayne to the ropes towards Reid and Reid falls into the ring. Henley gets on the ring apron but Paige kicks her to the outside of the ring. Paige turns around, Jayne with an inside cradle and she gets the pin.

Winner: Jacy Jayne via Pinfall to retain the WWE Women’s United States Championship.

Out comes Nikki Bella and she hits Paige from behind. Bella with the Rack Attack 2.0 onto Paige.

We see clips of the promo between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes.

Backstage: Cody Rhodes, Finn Balor

We cut to the back and we see Cody Rhodes. In comes Finn Balor and they shake heads. Rhodes says the entire situation with Orton, the stipulation, he is not sure what to say or what to do. He asks Balor what he thinks and Balor tells him he thinks he should keep his cool. He says he thinks that Orton will take him down a dark path. He says that by the time Cody is done with Randy, he will be Champion. They shake hands and Balor walks away.

Backstage: Trick Williams, Lil Yachty, Baron Corbin

Back from commercial and Trick Williams is with Lil Yachty. He tells Lil Yachty that he appreciates what he did for him and he will look out for him. But this is a big deal, he asks him if he is ready for Corbin. Lil Yachty tells him he has had bigger fish fried in his pan. He says Corbin disrespected them, he took the title at SummerSlam and he put him through a table. But that won’t matter because at Sunday Night’s Main Event, he will last the five minutes and after that, Trick will march down the ring and whoop that Trick. Lil Yachty tells him he has to go to the gym. Trick turns around and in comes Corbin. He tells Trick that the reason why he doesn’t have friends is because they do stupid things and he will whoop that Trick. Corbin says he is the Champion and he walks away.

In-Ring: Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton

Cody’s music hits and out he comes to the ring. Cody asks the fans what they want to talk about. He says he wants to talk about Randy Orton and as much as he would like to beat Orton senseless, that doesn’t accomplish the whole killing the legend killer thing. He says a big part of the discussion has been around the number 15 but 15 is not a record. And he doesn’t think that is in the cards for Orton anymore. But if anyone was going to break the record, it was Orton. But everytime Orton starts going up, Randy screws up. Every cross roads he approaches, he always goes the wrong way. You hear it backstage, that’s Randy being Randy. There are always excuses and it’s never his fault. Cody tells him he was there on multiple occasions when other people got shown the door but Orton got a slap on the wrists, he got do overs. He says Orton screwed up again by getting between him and the most important title in WWE, the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. He says at Sunday Night’s Main Event, it won’t be Randy beating Randy, it will be Cody killing the… But Orton’s music hits.

Orton tells him accountability, he is right. Early in his career, he made bad decision after bad decision. Cody had a driver’s seat because Orton needed someone to drive him, be a babysitter and that he got tucked into hotels all around the world safely. He asks Cody if he resents him, if he is at a cross roads. He tells Cody to take a swing but Cody looks at him. He tells Cody he knows how much the title means to him but after he kicked Cody in the face as hard as he could, he decided to come back at SummerSlam to make sure he didn’t beat CM Punk for the title. He asks Cody how it makes him feel and if he wants to take a swing. He asks Cody what is the matter, if the cat has his tongue. He says Cody is more the dog guy, what’s that dog’s name, Pharaoh. Orton asks Cody if his dog died, if his daughters had to bury him in his backyard in Atlanta. And Sunday Night’s Main Event is in Atlanta, in front of his family and friends. Cody gets angry and takes his jacket off. Orton asks Cody if his trailer park trash mother will be sitting front row when he beats his ass. Orton tells him to hit him. Cody takes a step towards Orton and Orton asks him about his trashy ass wife of his, if she will be there too. Orton tells him to do it. Cody tells him that he knows what he is doing and he knew that this is what he was going to do, he will do anything to get out of their match.

Cody says he is counting the days until Atlanta when they find out if Orton really is this once in a life time, generational superstar like Cody’s dad was or a first class screw up like Orton’s was. Cody tells Orton to hit him. He will see him in Atlanta. Cody throws the microphone and leaves the ring.

Backstage: Tatum Paxley, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss

We cut to the back and Jackie Redmond is with Tatum Paxley. She tells Jackie that her thoughts have been racing. She whispers in Jackie’s ear what she has been thinking about and Redmond walks away. In come Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. She tells them she had fun at brunch and she apologizes for the blood thing. Bliss says they were just told that they have a match against Jade, B-Fab and Michin at Sunday Night’s Main Event. Flair tells her not to make her regret sticking up for her. Paxley hugs Flair and says she knew they were the best of friends.

Backstage: Rey Fenix, Ricky Saints

Byron Saxton is backstage with Rey Fenix. He says he loves his brother but this is his moment. In comes Ricky Saints, he says it’s a nice story but to skip to the part where he loses the tournament. And he stops ducking Saints to give him a match for the AAA Championship. Fenix says he will win the tournament and the Championship. He tells Saints he doesn’t have what it takes to be Champion.

Michin vs. Tatum Paxley

The bell rings and we are under way. Paxley runs towards Michin but Michin moves out of the way and Paxley falls to the outside of the ring. Michin with a kick and she throws Paxley back into the ring. Michin gets on the ring apron but Paxley with a drop kick. Paxley gets on the ring apron and she lands a moon sault.

Back from commercial, Michin with a right hand. She goes for the cover but Paxley kicks out. Michin goes for a cannonball in the corner but Paxley moves out of the way. Paxley goes for the cover but Michin kicks out. Paxley with a super kick and a kick to the side of the head. Paxley goes for a kick but Michin picks her up and she powerbombs her. Michin goes for the Styles Clash but Paxley lands on her feet and Paxley with a back body drop. Paxley with a rolling kick. Paxley with the Cemetery Drive. She goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: Tatum Paxley via Pinfall.

Backstage: Blake Monroe, Giulia

We cut to the back and Jackie Redmond is with Blake Monroe. She tells Jackie that her match last week was beneath her and if she was good at her job, she would ask Nick Aldis why he would put a superstar like her in a match like that. When there is an opponent worthy of her and an entrance worthy of her glamor, she will make her debut. In comes GIulia and she hits Blake Monroe. She throws Blake into a garage door. In come WWE officials who break it up.

Backstage: Kevin Owens, Randy Orton

We see Kevin Owens walking and he is stopped by Randy Orton. He tells Owens that he hates to admit it but Owens was right about Cody. Owens tells him he knows, he says this is amazing, he is glad. Orton says he didn’t forget that he dropped him on his head and this doesn’t mean they are friends. Owens tells him they will work on it, he has his match and he will call him.

Video: The MFTs

A video promo for the MFTs air. They talk about Shinsuke Nakamura. Tala Tonga says Nakamura went home and got back up. Tama Tonga says they are not in Japan, they are in their territory. Haku tells them not to underestimate their enemies, they challengers should be destroyed because they are the mother f Tongan’s.

Backstage: R-Truth, Damian Priest, War Raiders

We cut to Damian Priest and R-Truth. He tells Priest that he is scouting the MFTs. Priest tells him that this summer was incredible, they got to team together, summer is over, they don’t have the titles anymore. He is taking it as a sign that he has to move on. He says when he moved to SmackDown, the idea was to focus on singles titles. In come the War Raiders. They talk about the MFTs will take the beating that was meant for them. R-Truth challenges them for the AAA Tag titles and they tell them that they can do it in Mexico City. R-Truth accepts and Priest looks reluctant. Priest tells him one more.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, The Irresistible Forces, The Miz, Kit Wilson

Nick Aldis is backstage and in come Nia Jax and Lash Legend. Nia tells him she wants a title match against Chelsea Green. Aldis tells her that Green has to be evaluated by medical. Jax tells him if he doesn’t give her a title match, she will take it by force and they walk away. In come Miz and Kit Wilson. They tell Aldis that they were lab rats, electrocuted and that he failed them. Miz tells Aldis that he owes them. Aldis says they can compete on SmackDown against Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki.

Undisputed WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Match
Kevin Owens vs. Gunther vs. Finn Balor

As Balor is getting in the ring, Gunther hits him with a right hand. Owens with right hands onto Gunther but Gunther with right hands. Owens runs towards Gunther but Gunther with a big boot. Balor gets in the ring and he grabs Gunther but Owens with a super kick onto Balor. Owens with a senton onto Gunther. Owens climbs the top rope and lands a swanton. He goes for the cover but Balor breaks it up. Gunther with a chop onto Balor. Gunther with a kick onto Owens and Owens falls to the outside of the ring. Balor rolls Gunther up but Gunther kicks out. Gunther with a chop to the chest. He runs towards Balor but Balor moves out of the way and Gunther to the outside of the ring. Owens on the ring apron but Balor with a right hand. Balor with a splash over the top rope onto Gunther.

Back from commercial, Owens with a super kick onto Gunther. Owens with a super kick onto Balor and Balor with an overhead kick onto Owens. All three men are down. Balor with a kick to the side of the head onto Gunther. He climbs the top rope, goes for Coup de Grace, Gunther moves out of the way, Balor lands on his feet and Owens clotheslines both men. Owens with a cannonball onto Gunther. Finn with a sling blade onto Owens. Finn climbs the top rope but Owens gets to his feet. Owens with a right hand. Owens climbs the second rope but Gunther grabs him down and Gunther with a clothesline. Gunther with a chop onto Balor. Gunther with a sleeper onto Owens. Balor with the Coup de Grace onto Owens and that breaks up the sleeper hold. Balor with a reverse DDT onto Gunther. Balor with a drop kick and he climbs the top rope. Balor with the Coup de Grace. He goes for the cover but out comes Sami Zayn and he drags Balor to the outside. He throws Balor into the announce table. Zayn hits the referee with a right hand. In the ring, Owens with a Stunner onto Gunther. He goes for the cover but there is no referee. Another referee runs down but Zayn with a right hand onto the referee.

Winner: None.

CM Punk’s music hits and out he comes. He hits Zayn with right hands and he throws Zayn into the barricade. Punk with right hands and he throws Zayn into the ring post. Punk grabs the Undisputed title but Zayn gets in the ring. Punk gets in the ring but Owens with right hands. Punk with right hands and Owens with a clothesline. Zayn hits Owens with the title. Balor gets in the ring but Zayn hits him with the title. Gunther gets Zayn in the sleeper but Zayn hits him with the title. Punk runs towards Zayn but Zayn hits him with the title. Zayn raises the title in the air and SmackDown goes off the air.
