Denise Salceo held a recent interview with AAA talent El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. One of the topics discussed included Wagner Jr.’s thoughts about the importance of his match against Dragon Lee in the First Round of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s tournament at the August 17th WWE RAW show.
“I try to say everything about what happened in WWE, I did NXT, my official debut. I did NXT live shows. I did my first NXT PLE Halloween Havoc, then with Carmelo on SmackDown. The most important match for me, I did with Dragon Lee. For me, he’s my top wrestler in the world. We’ve been in Japan for many years, but we never had a match. We came here to WWE and we did it. For me, I’m the most happy wrestler in the world. It’s a new experience obviously because it’s a different kind of things like lucha libre and wrestling. The atmosphere in Raw and SmackDown, I need to say the truth, I feel exhausted from the pressure about cameras and who is behind the curtain. But for me, it’s an amazing experience. I really did the best of me and I’m happy because we’re here and TripleMania is coming, many many surprises.”
It was good, when my entrance music started, the people [were] like, ‘Who is this guy?’ But, when the time advanced and the match started, the people started to believe in me because first, I had the most beautiful mask in the world. So, the people say, ‘Oh, this guy is maybe like Dragon Lee.’ But, everybody knows Dragon Lee. So, my worth is the people started to believe in my song, in my moves, in my mask, in my legacy because I am part of one of the most important legacies in Mexico. So, I want the people to know that. For me, it’s really important. But, it was good. We were in Buffalo, New York, it’s really really far from Mexico but the people in my mind, they accepted my character.”
Wagner Jr. also gave his thoughts about how the pressure from his matches against Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown and against Lee on RAW left him exhausted.
“The atmosphere in Raw and SmackDown, I need to say the truth, I felt exhausted from the pressure, about the cameras, who is behind the scenes. But for me, it was an amazing experience. I really did my best, and I’m happy.”
Wagner Jr. also gave his thoughts about how AAA talents have been training monthly at WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando, Florida and how WWE has been helping AAA wrestlers adapt to their wrestling style.
“Obviously, everything is a new era and a new time for all the wrestlers. Even for me, it’s different, how they move everything, because they try to teach us. We work for a venue, but we work for millions of people behind the TV or the different platforms. It is difficult, I need to say the truth. It is difficult, but not impossible. We try to be part of this new journey. We try to go like one time per month to the PC and try to learn about the style, about how we need to increase our level for the shows.”
