Billy Gunn Comments on He Refused To Push To Get His Sons Hired By AEW & Wanted Them To Finish College First

Inside The Ropes held a recent interview with AEW coach Billy Gunn. One of the topics discussed included Gunn’s thoughts about how he had refused to push to get his sons Austin and Colten to get hired by AEW and instead wanted them to finish college first before pursing a pro wrestling career.

“I’m not that guy anyway. Like if you suck, I’m telling you, you suck. I wanted my kids to actually suck so they didn’t do this job. But unfortunately, their dad was in DX. But that doesn’t matter. Just because I’m good at something doesn’t mean they’re going to be good at something

First of all, they had to graduate from college. That was number one. Don’t even come to me. Don’t even attempt to do this job if I don’t get that.

Austin [Gunn], the day he graduated, walked from the stage up the balcony where I was sitting, handed me this and goes, ‘When do we start?’

Gunn also gave his thoughts about why he didn’t want his sons to pursue pro wrestling careers.

“They’ve known that because they’ve lived it their entire life, is me never being around. Like never being home. It’s a little easier now, but when I first started, I was on the road 300 days out of the year

That’s insane. That’s zero life at home. That’s zero seeing your kids do [anything]. That’s zero seeing anybody do anything because when you go home, you sleep the entire time because you don’t do that on the road. So I don’t want that for my kids. I want better things for my kids like we all do.”

Gunn also gave his thoughts about how he wanted his sons to earn an AEW tryout first without him getting involved.

“I did teach them. I trained them up until a certain point to where they were kind of getting the feel of it.

And then I would send them away to people that I trusted to kind of just get a different perspective. But they had to go to Tony. They had to ask to get a tryout. They had tryouts. They did all that. I didn’t go, ‘Hey, would you hire my kids because they’re my kids?’ No, that ain’t me.”

Gunn also gave his thoughts about how he did not visit AEW asking them to hire his kids and him always having the belief that one had to earn their opportunity and work for it.

“Too many people just get it handed to them and they don’t understand the struggle it takes to do this job.”

“Speedball” Mike Bailey Comments on “There Are Absolutely No Half Measures With Will Ospreay, There Is Nothing That He Does That He Hesitates On”

A recent episode of the Casual Conversations with The Classic podcast featured “Speedball” Mike Bailey as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Bailey’s thoughts about Will Ospreay’s in-ring work and how there are absolutely no half measures when it comes to Ospreay’s matches.

“There are absolutely no half measures with Will Ospreay. There is nothing that he does, not a single movement, not a decision that he hesitates on. Everything is 100%, and I mean, that gets him in trouble sometimes. You see him overcommit, make decisions a bit too fast, and that might be his one flaw. But I mean, watching him go is absolutely impressive. The commitment and force with which he moves forwards, and that’s something that the first time we wrestled, which was at PWG in 2015, I could feel about Will Ospreay, and it’s something that he has maintained to this day. That has taken him to where he is now, which is AEW World Champion, the best wrestler in the world.”
