Cody Rhodes Re-Signs With WWE & Says He Will End His Wrestling Career With Company

A recent episode of the Flagrant podcast featured Cody Rhodes as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Rhodes revealing that he had recently signed a new contract with WWE to remain in the company for the foreseeable future. Rhodes also stated that he will be ending his wrestling career in WWE.

“Forgive me if this is breaking news and please edit it if I’m not allowed to share, which is fine. I just re-signed with WWE, so I’ll end my wrestling career [with WWE].”

Rhodes also gave his thoughts about how his working relationship with WWE allows him to pursue outside projects.

“Say I do have another project. Say I got two other projects, whatever it may be. I’m able to take a step away and I’m able to collaborate with WWE and I’m able to come back home.”

Rhodes also gave his thoughts about the future of his in-ring wrestling career and retirement plans.

“I think I used to have a number in mind for when wrestling retirement would come, but the way I’ve really grown with the current regime at WWE and there’s some unsaid heroes too — Bobby Roode for example, him kind of growing into a role there as a big time producer on big matches. Michael Hayes is still there doing the big time matches. One thing I’ve learned from them is they never have really taken — they’ve never stepped back from it. They’ve stepped into different roles.

I don’t know when settling down is, but I can say this. My parents were there for everything pretty much at the time that I needed them to be there for everything. So, I’d say like eight years old on, everything. Every game, every event, every booster club, all those things, I loved that they were there. I felt like I was their business was me and my sister. I’d love that for my two girls. So with that, it means I need to get to work and then I can go. There’s more, there’s more to do.”

Rhodes also gave his thoughts about the current pay structure in WWE for wrestlers and how the money in wrestling and sports entertainment is very good now.

“The wrestling economy is different now because there’s other places you can go wrestle. The best way to put it, the money in wrestling and sports entertainment is very good. I feel like if you were my dad or any of these wrestlers we talked about on that list, you’d be shocked. My mom didn’t get it when I said, hey, X amount. Now the contracts are guaranteed. All that means to me, it’s like, that’s a huge responsibility.”

Rhodes also gave his thoughts about what a new wrestler’s contract would look like in WWE.

“I don’t know what our developmental, I mean everything is six figures. You know what, I’ll actually defer to Nick Khan, because Nick has a great quote about these guys are going to do well, these guys are going to do really well, and then these couple guys, he named a few guys, they’re going to do next level. That next level pay is now comparable with sports. That’s the part that I’m so proud of being a wrestler because when you hear baseball contracts and NBA contracts and you know as a wrestler that you go all over the world and be known and seen but you weren’t on that level, you were on the level of penetration but not that level of income. Now, modern TKO and Nick have made it that you are.”
