Backstage: Athena, Hyan

The show opened with Athena stating that today we were going to have a Minion Empowerment Meeting, with “Hya” (aka Hyan) being called to this meeting. Athena asked Hyan how she felt when Maya World supposedly abandoned her. Hyan didn’t believe that, but Athena talked about how Maya was off doing her own thing and leaving “Hya” behind. She said that she was going to have a Proving Ground match, but she invited Hyan to join her after the match for the celebration.

Six-Man Tag Team Match
AR Fox & Top Flight (Darius & Dante Martin) vs. JD Ink, Matt Mako, & Charles Crowley

As always, the night started off with Tony Schiavone and Paul Wight commentating the action from last week in Pittsburgh.

Crowley & Darius started off this match. A kick to the guy by Crowley as he tagged in Mako. Darius avoided a double-team from Mako & Crowley as he bounced off the ropes for an acrobatic armdrag. Inverted atomic drop by Darius as Dante entered the match and hit a standing shooting star press for the near-fall. The tag to Darius again as he worked on Mako’s arm with a stomp and a twist. Mako reversed it and threw Darius out of the ring. The man behind everyone’s favorite new Star Wars “Glup Shitto” took advantage and stomped on Darius while Mako had the ref distracted.

Back in the ring, Crowley struck Darius with a big knee as JD Ink finally stepped into the action. Mako got back in, but Darius avoided chaos and found his way to his corner to tag in A.R. Fox.

Fox went to work on Mako with a fierce combo as he hit an acrobatic dropkick on Crowley, followed by a leaping cutter. Mako with the waist-lock, but Fox countered it and trned that into an amazing cutter. The cover, but JD Ink broke up the count. Top Flight took care of him with an assisted DDT. Triple team by Fox and the Martins led to Mako getting shelled by consecutive running attacks. Assisted cutter by Fox to Mako as the Martin brothers took care of Crowley & Ink on the outside with suicide dives. In the ring, Fox got the win with the 450 Splash on Mako.

Winner: AR Fox & Top Flight via Pinfall.

Backstage: Mina Shirakawa

Mina Shirakawa promised to “make waves” on Isla Dawn.

The Beast Mortos vs. QT Marshall

Collar-and-elbow tieup to start as Marshall transitioned that into a side headlock. Running shoulder block from Marshall failed to take Mortos down. The Beast leapt over Marshall and hit an amazing hurricanrana before he hit his foe with a running right hand strike in the corner. Marshall responded with a hurricanrana of his own. Marshall’s attempt at a baseball slide did not find home plate as he then found himself felled by Mortos’ tornillo to the outside.

At ringside, Mortos took time to take in the crowd cheers while punishing Marshall with strikes. In the ring, Mortos socked Marshall with the corner punches, but he found himself in a bad predicament. That was shortlived as Marshall got taken for the ride on the Powerbomb Express for the near-fall. Mortos gouged at Marshall’s eyes before he chopped at him in the corner. Mortos trapped Marshall and kicked at the hamstring. Marshall took advantage of Mortos playing to the crowd to hit a big Liger Bomb, but that wasn’t enough for the three. The two men exchanged back and forth strikes, but it was the monstrous attorney-at-law who took over with the chops to the chest of Marshall. On the top rope, Marshall countered and hit Mortos with the missile dropkick. Marshall then slammed him and got the springboard Asai Moonsault for another near-fall.

Mortos recovered, but he got hit with the kick from Marshall. That wasn’t enough to deter Mortos, who hit Marshall with a beastly lungblower for the close two. Uppercut by Marshall, but he couldn’t hit the cutter. He instead got sent crashing and burning from the pop-up Samoan Drop for the near-fall. This match has surprisingly gone the distance as Marshall hit the gamengiri, then the superkick and an enzuigiri. With Mortos at ringside, Marshall kept up the momentum with an over-the-top rope tope con giro. The elbow drop from Marshall only got him the two-count. Marshall went up to the turnbuckle but he missed with the dive. Mortos met him with the elevated headbutt followed by the pop-up sitdown powerbomb for the three.

Winner: The Beast Mortos via Pinfall.

Video: Bandido

Ian Riccaboni congratulated ROH Men’s World Champion Bandido for reaching 709 days as the champion before we got a recap of ELP vs. Adam Brooks from Death Before Dishonor a couple of months ago.

ROH Women’s Pure Championship
Emi Sakura vs. Deonna Purrazzo (c)

As per the usual, this was contested under Pure Rules with a 60-minute time limit announced.

Sakura took advantage of the Code of Honor to lock in a Fujiwara armbar at the start of the match, which forced Purrazzo to use the first of her three rope breaks immediately. Purrazzo aggressively attacked Sakura, but found herself hit with a cascade of bell claps. Purrazzo countered that into a Fujiwara armbar of her own, which led to Sakura using her first ropebreak. In the corner, Purrazzo struck Sakura over and over again with the chops ot the chest. Sakura escaped it and hit Purrazzo with a chop before she threw her across the ring by the hair. Sakura took a bite out of Purrazzo’s hand and then turned that into an attempted stretch submission. Purrazzo countered that into the Calf-Killer. That got turned into a North-South Stretch, which led to Sakura to bite at Purrazzo’s wrist to break the hold.

Sakura trapped Purrazzo in the figure-four leg lock, but that got reversed by the Women’s Pure Champion. Purrazzo deliberately rolled herself and Sakura near the ropes, which forced the challenger to use her second rope break. Sakura choked Purrazzo with her foot before hitting a series of stomps in the corner. Purrazzo responded with the side Russian legsweep that she switched beautifully in the Fujiwara armbar. The painful struggle gave Sakura no choice but to use her final rope break to get out of Purrazzo’s hold. Purrazzo had another submission locked in, but Sakura held on to the ropes to no avail. Sakura recovered long enough and got the Fujiwara armbar, as Purrazzo used her second rope break. Big hammerlock lariat by Sakura got a very close two for the challenger. Butterfly Bomb by Sakura was reversed into a pinfall attempt for the two-count.

Both women got to their feet and traded strikes with one another. Purrazzo with the massive lariat. One, two…. 2.9999999!!!!!!! Sakura got Purrazzo with a swinging cutter afterwards, followed by the running splash into the corner. On the middle rope, Sakura hit the splash for a two-count. After a struggle, Purrazzo locked Sakura in the Fujiwara armbar to force a tap out with 50:44 left on the clock.

Winner: Deonna Purrazzo via Submission to retain the ROH Women’s Pure Championship.

Backstage: Dark Order, Preston Vance

The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Alex Reynolds) addressed how they were ready to move forward, even with John Silver protesting, but Preston Vance offered his services. Uno & Reynolds took a vote and said Vance was back in the Dark Order fold.

ROH Women’s World Championship Proving Ground Match
Sirena Linton vs. Athena (c)

10-minute time-limit for this Proving Ground match.

Tie-up to start with Athena throwing Sirena and giving her a mocking slap to the back of the head. Waistlock by Sirena as she got out of an attempted wristlock and then threw her for the takeover. Athena took a retreat to the outside to regroup while Sirena wanted some more. Athena offered a wristlock to Sirena, but then piefaced her for that. Big thrust kick to the face of Sirena sent her out of the ring, as Athena then hit her with a big kick from the apron. The throw to the barricade let Sirena writhing in pain as Athena took her time to “play” with her prey.

Back in the ring, Athena continued to toy with Sirena, slapping her in the face before punching her in the corner. Running hip attack to the opposite corner, follwoed by a big clothesline. Huge kick to the back of her foe by Athena. Sirena got trapped in a tree of woe as Athena kicked at her head repeatedly, which forced the referee to back her off. Sirena avoided a kick and bounced back with the enzuigiri. Missed senton from Sirena led to Athena blasting her with the sliding forearm and the two-count. Sirena attempted to fight back, but Athena got her with the pullover into a powerslam for another near-fall.

Athena stretched Sirena’s arms, but found herself nearly pinned. Sirena got a second wind with the flying forearms and the headscissors. Samoan Drop by Sirena left Athena on the mat, long enough for the diving press. One, two…. not yet! Sirena sized up Athena for the handspring press, but she got caught for the German Suplexes by the “Forever Champion”. Athena tossed Sirena overhead into the corner, and ended this match with the Forever Stomp.

Winner: Athena via Pinfall.

After the match, Athena pummelled Sirena some more until Hyan ran in. Athena offered Sirena to her. The spear from Hyan missed the mark as Athena pushed Sirena into the line of fire.

Matt Sydal vs. “The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith

Sydal offered a Code of Honor handshake to formally begin the match, but Keith thought otherwise and threw his poncho at him. Sydal got ahead of that and blocked the poncho to hit Keith with the knee to the face.Keith used the referee as a shield, but Sydal wasn’t going to have any of it. Keith was hit with a pair of ranas from Sydal, followed by the side kick to the face. With Keith down on the mat, Sydal went to the top rope. No high-risk move, but Sydal hit Keith with a neckbreaker. Standing moonsault by Sydal got another early near-fall. It has been all Sydal to start this match.

Keith countered with the exploder suplex from the corner to finally create some separation. Chop to the chest by Keith led to a barrage of strikes. Sydal got the best of Keith in a struggle of Irish whips, but Keith got him with a knee to the face. Snapmare by Keith was followed by a knee drop to the face of Sydal. Lariat from Keith after Sydal struck out on the kick as if he was a Los Angeles Dodgers player. Keith took his shots at Sydal with the chop, followed by the thumb to the eye. Sydal reversed a Keith suplex attempt as the two got into a standing switch standoff. Keith took over with the DDT to plant Sydal, but he couldn’t put the match away there.

Sydal blocked Keith’s exploder suplex attempt and turned that into a roll-up pin attempt. Keith missed with the big boot as Sydal struck at Keith’s hamstring with kicks. The Question Mark Kick from Sydal wasn’t enough to get the three. Keith stood up while Sydal was on the top rope as he intercepted his foe and looked for a big, risky move. Sydal blocked it, but Keith got him flush with the rising headbutt. Keith’s Tiger Driver was countered by Sydal for a pin. Sydal recovered and connected with the Shooting Star Press for the three.

Winner: Matt Sydal via Pinfall.

Backstage: Isla Dawn

Isla Dawn responded to Mina Shirakawa’s earlier remarks and she was ready to take her on in a match on next week’s HonorClub show. We’ll also see Lee Moriarty defend his ROH Men’s Pure Championship against Mance Warner.

ROH World Television Championship
ELP vs. Action Andretti (c)

ELP offered the Code of Honor handshake, but Andretti only offered a one-finger salute instead. Once the bell rang, ELP went for a wrist lock, but Andretti got out of it. ELP reversed him into a brief surfboard stretch, but Andretti got the first pinfall attempt off of that. Andretti tried to yell at the fans for chanting in support of ELP, but he got hit with the shoulder tackle from the Vancouver native. Headscissors by ELP, but Andretti landed on his feet. ELP responded by matching Andretti beat for beat. And speaking of “beat for beat”, both ELP and Andretti went for dueling dropkicks that neither found their target on.

ELP offered another handshake, but Andretti slapped him and called for a pause as he got out of the ring to talk some smack to the Jacksonville crowd. ELP made him pay for that with the vaulting body press over the top rope. ELP chopped at Andretti before he stomped on the hand back inside the ring. Phantasmo with some good old fashioned Canadian joint manipulation before he took Andretti for the ride with the hurricanrana. ELP lifted Andretti on his shoulders for the Cutthroat Driver, but Andretti got out of it and clipped ELPs’ knees. Dropkick from the champion only got a two-count. Snapmare by Andretti was followed by the running necksnap for the two-count. ELP attempted to fight from underneath as he got Andretti with the dropkick off the ropes. ELP got himself hyped up before connecting with the inverted atomic drop and a not-so-inverted atomic drop. Side Russian leg sweep was followed by a Bret Hart-like elbow drop. Andretti used the referee as a shield, but ELP got him for the la magistral pin for a near-fall. Andretti dropped ELP on the middle rope and sent him out with a running facewash boot. Springboard Asai moonsault from the apron by Andretti left ELP down and out.

Andretti chucked ELP to the barricade before he mocked a fan. He then pushed ELP into the apron back-first. In the ring, Andretti went for consecutive pin attempts, but ELP kicked out of both attempts. ELP got hit with the handspring back elbow from Andretti, which still wasn’t enough to earn the win. Andretti drove his knee to the back of ELP’s head, which was followed by a slam. Andretti leapt from the rope for the elbow and another near-fall. Andretti planted his foot on the back of ELP while he kept the advantage going. A very arrogant Andretti stomped at ELP in the corner with the ten-minute warning. Five to go.

ELP got a second wind with the DDT from the corner. ELP kept up the Canuckian momentum with punches to the face of Andretti, followed by the ten-punch salute in the corner. ELP used his great speed to evade Andretti and hit a springboard crossbody, then the moonsault for a near-fall. Another Cutthroat Driver attempt, but Andretti escaped once more. Backslide from ELP was countered by Andretti, who hit a pair of superkicks, followed by the running shooting star press for the incredibly close two-count. Elbow to the back by Andretti, as the Lights Camera Action was countered by ELP. Pumphandle Backbreaker by Andretti led to the Falcon Arrow and another kickout with only two minutes left.

ELP hit the enzuigiri, but he got caught with the handspring cutter. Shotgun dropkick by Andretti, led to the split-legged moonsault with a near fall and the one-minute warning. Andretti hoisted ELP on his shoulder, but ELP reversed it into the Cutthroat Driver. The cover. One, two…. NO! Off the top rope with the splash, but Andretti rolls out of the ring as he took the draw to keep the title.

Winner: None. Action Andretti retains ROH World Television Championship.

After the match, ELP demanded for one more match, as he and Andretti shook hands. Belt shot from ELP as Adam Priest chased off Andretti.
