While things could always change, as things stand now, WWE isn’t planning on bringing back Rey Mysterio to television once his current hand injury heals.
According to one source, WWE is more focused on preventing Mysterio from doing anything further with the Mexican-based AAA promotion, or any other promotion for that matter, than utilizing his talent and ability for their own company.
As previously reported, the company extended Mysterio’s contract due to time he was out due to his injuries. Basically, they felt he “owed them time” and a clause in his contract allows WWE to extend his contract due to this. AAA’s TripleMania XXII featured a video package from Mysterio where he congratulated the company for twenty-two years in operations and said he would see them soon, ending with the hashtag #FREEREY. WWE was not happy about with this.
