One person who was notably missing from the “Greatest Royal Rumble” in Saudi Arabia was Sami Zayn.
In response to Zayn not being at the event, WWE released this statement:
“WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world.”
That seems to imply that Saudi Arabia did not want Zayn at the event for some reason, although there are also rumors that Zayn may have personally objected to going and was allowed to stay home.
Sami Zayn is of Syrian descent and Saudi Arabia has been flooding Syria with weapons since about 2011, with the monstrous Saudi government supporting literal Al Qaeda and ISIS-aligned terrorists there, who are fighting against the secular Syrian government. The Saudis want Syria to be controlled by followers of their same ultra-conservative extremist version of Islam, Wahhabism, which is the same version of Islam also followed by ISIS. This has led to the needless, barbaric destruction of Syria and the suffering of millions of Syrians as foreign weapons and terrorists flood the country.
If Saudi Arabia actually prevented Zayn from going, fuck Saudi Arabia (for this, among lots of other reasons).
If Zayn in fact chose to not go, that is pretty commendable. Hopefully more info will come out soon.
