Tough Enough Winner Matt Cappotelli Passes Away

Former WWE Tough Enough winner Matt Cappotelli passed away today at the age of 38 due to complications from a brain tumor.

Cappotelli’s career in wrestling started in 2003 following his victory in Tough Enough III, earning a contract from the WWE in the process. His WWE career was put on an indefinite hold after a tumor was discovered in his brain in 2005 and he eventually retired from wrestling in 2007 due to it. Following successful surgery to remove around 90% of his tumor in 2007, Cappotelli was able to live a normal life. He took a turn for the worse late last year, when it was revealed that his brain tumor returned in a more aggressive form. Cappotelli’s wife Lindsay said last month that his cancer reached the stage where medical treatments were no longer an effective option and he was expected to pass away soon.

Lindsay Cappotelli stated on Facebook that her husband passed away earlier today at the age of 38.

“Hey Team Capp…I’ve been struggling with what to say and how to say this, and I’ll probably end up rambling, but here goes. Today my love-my strong, sweet, beautiful love-took his last breath at 3:30 a.m. and went Home to be with Jesus…exactly one year after his brain surgery. You think you can be prepared for this when you know it’s coming, but you just can’t. The only person who’s comfort I want right now is the one who can’t give it to me. I miss him so much. I know where he is now is so much better, but it doesn’t change how much I miss him.”
