NJPW officially announced that Jon Moxley will challenge Juice Robinson for the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship at Best of the Super Jr. 26 on June 5. Yesterday, it was announced that he would appear on the show, but there was no match announcement.
The match will stream live on NJPW World and will also air two days later on NJPW’s weekly AXS TV show on Friday, June 7 at 8 PM ET.
Moxley will be working in NJPW going forward, in addition to AEW. Similar to some other wrestlers in AEW, Moxley will be able to work in NJPW and some US indie dates, but he’s signed to a full-time deal with AEW and AEW dates will take precedence.
Moxley working in both AEW and NJPW had some people questioning if the two promotions now had some sort of working relationship, but NJPW denied that, with NJPW GM Michael Craven telling Sports Illustrated, “New Japan and Jon Moxley came to terms on an agreement some time ago, completely independently of All Elite. Our understanding is that he is free to wrestle in Japan. We wish AEW well, but have no working relationship as of now.”
