A Wrestling Mini-Series Called “Heels” Is Coming to Starz

An eight-episode one-hour drama called Heels is starting production and will air on Starz. No word on when it will debut, but the series hasn’t started shooting yet.

Here’s the plot, according to TVLine: “Set in a close-knit Georgia community, Heels follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to (and just as hard to leave behind).”

The series will star Stephen Amell in the lead role. He will play Jack, the villainous owner of the fictional Duffy Wrestling Association. From TVLine: “Outside the ring, he’s its hard-working owner, a husband and father trying to make ends meet while fighting to realize his impossible dreams. He has the mind of an artist in the body of a warrior, and a Steve Jobs-ian need for perfection — and for control. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to build the DWA into an empire.”

Amell has had some actual pro wrestling experience, most recently wrestling at All In in 2018, losing to Christopher Daniels. Before that, he teamed with Neville at WWE SummerSlam 2015 to defeat Stardust (Cody Rhodes) and King Barrett, and he also wrestled in ROH in 2017, teaming with Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks.

AEW congratulated Amell on the role.
