Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley tonight at AEW Winter Is Coming with help from longtime friend Don Callis, and he’ll be bringing the title to Impact Wrestling when he appears on their show this coming Tuesday.
During tonight’s main event, Omega apparently faked an injury and Impact executive vice president Don Callis, who was on commentary for the match, got on the apron with a mic to yell at the referee that Omega was hurt. Moxley then nailed Callis, knocking him down. The ref went to check on Callis, and Callis tossed the microphone to Omega, who hit Moxley with it behind the ref’s back, busting Moxley open. After several V-Triggers, Omega hit Moxley with the One Winged Angel to pick up the win and become the new AEW World Champion.
Callis then got up to celebrate with Omega and the two hightailed it out of the building, past an angry Tony Khan and AEW staff backstage as Tony Schiavone yelled “bullshit!” When they got outside near their getaway car, Alex Marvez asked them, “What the hell’s going on here?” “You’ll find out this Tuesday night!” Callis yelled. Marvez said, “Tuesday? Dynamite’s on Wednesday,” and Callis responded, “This Tuesday, Impact Wrestling on AXS TV! Me and Kenny will tell you all about it!” Callis and Omega then got into the car and it sped away as Jim Ross said, “What the hell, we’ve just been jobbed.”
It’s unclear for now how deep this new relationship between AEW and Impact will be and if it’ll just revolve around this one angle or a more robust talent crossover agreement.
Impact airs on Tuesday nights from 8-10 PM ET on AXS TV and for free on Twitch.
