As noted before, multiple wrestlers and staff within WWE have recently tested positive for COVID-19. Despite the latest outbreak within the company, WWE is still planning to go ahead with their upcoming house show event at Madison Square Garden and next week’s episode of RAW.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that as of Wednesday afternoon, WWE officials still are expecting to go forward with all of their scheduled live events in the United States next week. One source spoken to stated that the company has been making a lot of calls and “a lot of running around” trying to stay ahead of the current COVID-19 outbreak situation as they receive additional information on talent and staff who might not be medically cleared to travel this weekend.
Johnson reported that a number of talents spoken to stated that the company had contacted and asked them to get tested for precautionary reasons.
Johnson also reported that more talents and staff have tested positive over the course of the past day but they have not been identified due to legal reasons.
In regards to the outbreak itself, one source spoken to within the company stated that they are currently dealing with the same issues that Broadway and sports leagues have dealt with in recent weeks regarding surges in COVID-19 cases. This same source stated that this was nothing that could have been avoided due to the company had been regularly testing their talents before allowing them into venues for events.
Another WWE source spoken to stated that for talents who were scheduled to perform this weekend but are unable to, WWE would work on alternative card lineups for those house show events. This same source stated that the worst case scenario would be to fill the undercard with NXT talents if necessary.
Johnson reported that the current hope within the company is that all talents who are unable to perform at this weekend’s holiday tour of house show events would be medically cleared in time for their Day One event.
