As noted before, Cody Rhodes left AEW earlier this year following the expiration of his contract and made his official return to WWE at their WrestleMania 38 event this past April.
While responding to a fan question on Twitter, Rhodes recently stated that his departure from AEW had nothing to do with any rumored issues with The Elite nor CM Punk and instead was just him wanting to go in a new direction for his career. Rhodes referenced that he wanted to win the “big one” which he had revealed in his return promo to WWE that this was the WWE Championship and wanted to win it in honor of his late father Dusty.
I didn’t leave because of the Bucks/Kenny. I’m forever bonded to those men over what we created and I remain very proud of it, and I didn’t leave because of/or have issues with Punk. We got along. Not money, not booking, just a personal issue and my wanting to go for the big one.

Following Rhodes’ comments, the Young Bucks responded on Twitter with a photo reflecting on their time together in AEW.
