As noted before, AEW announced on Wednesday that they had recently signed Aussie Open, Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis, to official contracts with the company.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Aussie Open had been working without contracts for NJPW since this past February due to the company not signing them to new deals. This reportedly was the reason why Aussie Open decided to sign a deal with AEW and several members of AEW’s tag team division had pushed AEW officials to sign the team.
It was also reported that AEW CEO Tony Khan had paid for Davis’ recent knee surgery despite Aussie Open not being under contract with his company.
It was also reported that WWE were interested in signing the team but their current hiring freeze for new talent signings ended up being an obstruction in getting a potential deal done.
