As noted before, AEW recently released their Vice President of Post Production Kevin Sullivan from the company. This decision was made by AEW Senior Vice President and Co-Executive Producer Mike Mansury.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Sullivan was released from AEW on December 4th. Meltzer reported that the story going around within AEW was that Mansury had informed Sullivan that morning that the company would be going in another direction in 2024.
Sullivan reportedly was caught off guard by this decision nor was he given any real explanation for it. Sullivan’s release reportedly had also blindsided many people within AEW and they only found out after it had happened.
In regards to Sullivan’s duties in AEW, Meltzer reported that Sullivan was the person responsible for producing AEW’s video packages, Countdown shows, and the hype shows released online to build their television shows. Sullivan’s work reportedly has always been highly regarded both in and outside of wrestling and his company KevinSullyTV has worked with a variety of companies including NBC Universal, Bud Light, FS1, WWE 2K, UFC, Bellator, New Japan Pro Wrestling, FITE TV, and many others.
Meltzer reported that many people in AEW’s post production division did not even know that Mansury was Sullivan’s boss due to this never being made cleared to those who worked in that side of production for the company. Meltzer also reported that those within AEW’s production staff were informed that nobody else was expected to be cut.
AEW CEO Tony Khan reportedly received criticisms by some within AEW for not stepping in and stopping Sullivan from being released due to his tenure and work for the company. One person spoken to reportedly stated “Another day one guy gone. Sad. Great guy. Worked tirelessly since the beginning. Really understood the original mission statement and feeling/image we were going for.” Others spoken to reportedly were in shock about Sullivan’s release due to him being heavily praised within the company.
