As noted before, AEW has been working on plans for a potential match between AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena to take place as early as this weekend’s Dynasty 2025 event.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials plans for this match has been in the works behind-the-scenes and is expected to take place at some point this year and as early as this Sunday’s Dynasty 2025 event.
It was reported that while it has been theorized by some that this match could be scheduled for this July’s All In: Texas event due to Athena’s strong connections to the “Lone Star State,” those spoken to stated that AEW officials have explored multiple creative directors for that event.
Those spoken to reportedly also stated that Athena and Mone both being involved in the upcoming Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament believe this was a deliberate creative choice rather than a coincidence.
It was also reported that while there were recent discussions within AEW about the possibility of this high-profile match taking place at Dynasty, it is has yet to be confirmed if this is the definitive plan.
