WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Show Notes: Kurt Angle, The Rock, Kevin Owens, Joe Hendry, & More Appears, John Cena “GOAT” Tribute Video Airs, Michael Cole Pays Tribute to Taz, Jim Ross, & Others Who Called Cena Matches with Him, Gunther Makes Cena Tap Out in Cena’s Final Match & Cena Leaves His Shoes In Ring

HBK, Trish Stratus, Kurt Angle, Mark Henry & More Appears

Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. featured WWE Hall of Famers Shawn Michaels, Trish Stratus, Kurt Angle, Mark Henry, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, The Undertaker, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Michelle McCool, Kane, former WWE wrestlers Eve Torres, former WWE & WCW wrestler Haku, TNA talent Elijah, and Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens making a surprise appearance.

Michaels, Stratus, Angle, Henry, Booker T, and RVD were shown in attendance backstage during the show’s Countdown pre-show.

Prior to the start of the singles match between Bayley and Ruca, Torres was seen in the front row of the crowd next to Stratus and got a hug from Bayley.

The Undertaker and The Rock were shown during a video tribute segment for Cena giving their praise for Cena and his legendary wrestling career.

Prior to the start of the tag team match between AJ Styles & Dragon Lee and Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater, McCool was seen in attendance in the front row in the crowd alongside Henry, Angle, RVD, Torres, Stratus, and Sami Zayn.

Prior to the start of the John Cena’s Final Match between Cena and Gunther, Kane was shown among the WWE talents giving their words of praise to Cena and his legendary wrestling career.

Prior to the start of the singles match between Gunther and John Cena, Elijah, Owens, and Haku were seen in the front row along with other WWE Hall of Fames who Cena gave a handshake to as he made his ring entrance for one last time in his wrestling career.


WWE Airs John Cena “GOAT” Tribute Video

Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show also featured WWE airing a tribute video narrated by WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque paying tribute to John Cena’s wrestling career and calling him the “Greatest of All Time” ahead of his retirement match on the show.


Michael Cole Pays Tribute to Taz, JBL, Jim Ross, & Others Who Called Cena Matches with Him

Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show also featured WWE commentator Michael Cole paying tribute to all of the past and present WWE commentators who he got to call John Cena matches with throughout Cena’s wrestling career.

Cole mentioned and paid tribute to Wade Barrett, Taz, Corey Graves, JBL, Jim Ross, and Jerry β€œThe King” Lawler.


Joe Hendry Makes Surprise Appearance

Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show also featured NXT talent Joe Hendry making a surprise appearance.

During the show, The Miz came out to the ring interrupting Joe Tessitore and Stephanie’s talk about Cena’s upcoming retirement match. The Miz proceeded to give his grievances about him being left out of all the celebration for Cena and brought up how he beat Cena at WrestleMania.

This led to R-Truth running out to the ring holding a ball in his hand. Truth talked about how it is fitting Miz is here since he stole someone’s opportunity in the Last Time Is Now Tournament.

Truth handed Miz his ball with the name of the person he took the spot from. Miz unwrapped the paper that read “Joe Hendry” on it. The Miz gave a disgusted look and uttered Hendry’s name leading to him appearing on the apron.

This led to Hendry brawling with The Miz that ended with Truth and Hendry hitting a stereo Five-Knuckle Shuffle to Miz and followed by Hendry hitting a Standing Ovation to Miz laying him out.


Gunther Makes Cena Tap Out in Cena’s Final Match & Cena Leaves His Shoes In Ring

Saturday’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event show also featured Gunther defeating Cena by making Cena tap out in his retirement match.

Following the match, WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, and others came out to the ring to pay tribute to Cena for one last time in his wrestling career. Punk and Rhodes symbolically handed their titles to Cena and Cena watched a tribute video to him on the big screen.

After the video ended, Cena celebrated and gave his respect to the crowd in the ring and proceeded to take off his sweatbands and shoes and left it in the ring to symbolize his in-ring retirement. Cena then left to the back but not before giving one final bow to the crowd.
