As noted before, WWE is believed to currently have “very high” views of Powerhouse Hobbs and is interested in signing him once his AEW contract expires.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Hobbs’ contract with AEW is set to expire on Wednesday on midnight.
It was reported that AEW and Hobbs had been in contract negotiations over the past few months and despite AEW giving a “substantial” offer for him to stay, Hobbs will be finishing up with his time in the company at tonight’s post-Dynamite Collision Maximum Carnage 2026 tapings in Phoenix, Arizona. Hobbs is scheduled to team up Katsuyori Shibata and Samoa Joe to defend the AEW World Trios Championship against Hangman Adam Page & JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & “Speedball” Mike Bailey) at the tapings.
It was also reported that unless something major changes, Hobbs is currently expected to join WWE once he is contractually eligible to do so. Hobbs reportedly wanted to test free agency and is leaving AEW on good terms.
Prior to his departure, Hobbs had been with AEW since July of 2020.
