A recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show featured WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk as one of the guests. One of the topics discussed included Punk’s thoughts about the praise from others over his promo segment with Roman Reigns at this past Monday’s WWE RAW show and many people considering it to be Reigns’ best promo segment of all time.
“Imagine that, in the ring with CM Punk, bringing the best out of guys. Yeah, I’ve heard that before.
When you look at who is the biggest names in the industry, the top two are CM Punk and Roman Reigns so you want to see them in the biggest event, in the main event, at WrestleMania. So, we’re here now.
I wasn’t sure he was going to pick me, I thought he might pick Drew because I do legitimately believe Drew is the easier choice.”
Punk also gave his thoughts about if he believes that AJ Styles is actually retired from his in-ring wrestling career.
“Who knows? I don’t know. I know what he told me behind the scenes, which is nobody else’s business.”
In a separate recent interview with the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams show, Punk gave his thoughts about if he actually hates Reigns in response to Reigns saying he only picked him to be his WrestleMania 42 opponent because he hates hi,.
“I don’t hate him at all. I’m the guy who gets under people’s skin. I can draw that out of him. I really make people step up and become the best version of themselves because they want to shut me up. I love that. If I can get him emotional, if you know you’re in their head, you can beat them.”
Punk also gave his thoughts about Reigns choosing him and their upcoming WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 42.
“It’s exactly what I wanted. I feel like I played the little Samoan like a fiddle and got exactly what I wanted out of it. I’m the champ, everybody is chasing me. He made the right decision.
The lore is, we’re two top guys in the industry, so it’s going to be a dick measuring contest.”
In a separate recent interview with the No Contest Wrestling podcast, CM Punk gave his thoughts about his ten year gap in between his runs in WWE and if he has any regrets about what he could have done during those ten years.
“Do I ever think like, ‘I missed ten years. I could have worked with AJ a bunch. I could have done more with Cena.’ I think I did pretty good. The Tribal Chief says he graciously scaled back for two years. I graciously stepped back for ten, and it took him that long to become the superstar that he is. I have no regrets.”
Punk also gave his thoughts about him currently not having any plans for his retirement from wrestling nor a potential retirement tour similar to John Cena.
“I really don’t know. It’s big in Japanese wrestling, the retirement tour. They’ve done that over there for many, many years. It was just new to Western wrestling fans. Cena did it, and I thought it was brilliant. Saying, ‘This is the last time you’re going to get to come see me. You get to see me wrestle or appear.’ With me, I really don’t know. I almost don’t like talking about it because I don’t think it’s going to be anytime soon. The way our business is, I like to keep some things shrouded in secrecy and mystery. We’ll have to wait and see. I’m trying to keep myself in one piece because I think I’m on the run of my life and doing the best work I’ve ever done. Why would I want to step away now?”
