For those not in the know, Metroplex Wrestling was founded in 2010 by none other than ROH Women’s World Champion, Athena. She runs it out of Texas and some of it’s notable alumni include Tatum Manning, Man Man and Mr. Leggs. Billie Starkz, Shane Taylor and Diamante have all darkened Metroplex’s doors in appearances as well. So let’s see what they’ve got, shall we?

Mixed Eight-Person Tag Team Match
Reiza Clarke, Demo Diamond, LVJ, & Kari Jai Wright vs. Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, Trish Adora, & The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Capt. Sean Dean)

The MPX crew looked good headed down to the ring, but Shane Taylor Promotions is a tough group to face, no matter who you are.

Ogogo and XO headed to ringside and the bell rang with Bravo pie-facing Wright. He followed that up with a waistlock taikedown, but Wright managed a wristlock, keeping Bravo from bringing in backup from the corner. Wright caught Bravo with a shoulder tackle and then threw a clothesline in the corner.

Bravo reversed an Irish whip, but couldn’t get ahold of Wright, so he just punched him in the face. Dean tagged in Wright brought Dean over to the corner to bring in LVJ. Dean unloaded some chops on LVJ, but wasn’t able to keep him down.

LVJ strutted his stuff and hit a knee to the sternum. Adora tagged in and Clark joined her. Adora is a menacing figure, but Clark was just as intimidating. Clark landed a punch, but a spinning kick from Adora sent her into the corner and caught a blind tag.

Taylor tagged in and cleared the ring, but Dean landed a BBC in the corner on Wright. Wright got laid up on the ropes and XO gave him five fingers to the face. Taylor tagged back in and chopped Wright half to death, as he does.

Dean tagged back in and put a half crab on Wright who screamed in pain. Wright managed to kick him off and tag in Clark. Adora came in and the speed picked up with Clark clearing the STP corner and hitting running knees in the corner on Adora. She landed a side slam for a two count and then Adora countered into a suplex.

Clark returned the favour as the Infantry pulled Wright and Diamond down off the corner. Adora hit a Lariat Tubman and that was it. She pinned Clark for the victory.

Winner: Shane Taylor Promotions via Pinfall.

ROH Women’s World Television Championship Proving Ground Match
VertVixen vs. Red Velvet (c)

The two locked up with Vixen getting the wristlock on first. Velvet flipped around and got on of her own on. So, Vixen flipped around, but Velvet stopped her short and put on a scissor lock. Vixen hit a shoulder tackle and elbow. She went for the cover but Velvet kicked out at one.

Velvet dodged a charge from Vixen in the corner and hit a bottom rope springboard for a two count. Vixen came off the ropes with a dropkick and pulled Velvet over with an armdrag into an armbar. Arms.

Velvet got out of it and landed a kick off the ropes. Velvet hit an armdrag of her own and went back to the short arm scissor lock. She transitioned it into a straightjacket hold, but Vixen dropped low and got out of it. Velvet seemed a little dazed, but not so much she couldn’t kick out of a rollup.

Vixen caught Velvet in the eye and sent her off the ropes for a big boot to the head. Velvet collapsed and Vixen scopped her up and put her in a tree of woe for some kicks. She put a point on it with a dropkick and went for a cover that Velvet kicked out of at two.

Vixen ran right into an elbow from Velvet who sent her to the corner. Vixen exploded out with a blut thunder bomb, but obviously didn’t get the pin. The two started trading hands, which is not something you want to do with a person like Velvet.

Velvet hit a bulldog and then took Vixen to Mama’s Kitchen to pick up the victory in the Proving Ground.

Winner: Red Velvet via Pinfall.

Backstage: Christopher Daniels, Top Flight

Backstage, Christopher Daniels talked to the Martin Brothers of Top Flight. He said that the world has forgotten how good they are and they need to start issuing some challenges. Daniels then challenged Sammy Guevara and Beast Mortos, the current ROH Tag Champions. Dante called them an embarrassment and Darious said that they have been sleeping on Top Flight for too long and it’s time for them to wake up.

Surf & Turf (Braddah Kaimi & Phil Shark) vs. Big Bill & “The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith

Before you ask, yes. Phil Shark is a literal man in a shark suit. Or shark in a man suit. I love wrestling.

Shark started off against Keith and Keith didn’t even bother to take his poncho off until after the bell when he threw it on Shark, which is how professionals deal with rabid sharks I think.

Keith ripped Shark’s mask off much to the crowd’s dismay and Kaimi tagged in so they could hit a double team on Keith. Bill tagged in and Shark and Kaimi called for their signature move the “Harpoon” but Bill simply punched them to death.

Keith tagged back in to choke Kaimi and Bill pulled him through the ropes by the hair and laid some clubbing blows onto him. Keith dropped a knee in the ring but Kaimi kicked out at two. The crowd wanted Bill, but Keith said “nah” and hit a dropkick. He wrapped Kaimi up in a headlock until Kaimi managed to get out of it and get a hot tag to Shark.

Shark threw some clotheslines which knocked Keith over, but only mildy irritated Bill. They landed a Harpoon on Bill and then double standing Moonsaults on Keith. Kaimi dove through the ropes and got caught by Bill who choke slammed him on the ring apron (the sharkiest part of the ring!)

Keith headbutted Shark in the ring and then tagged in Bill for stereo big boots. Bill picked up Shark in a bear hug followed by a side slam and that was it. 1-2-3 and Bill and Keith get the win.

Winner: Big Bill & “The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith via Pinfall.

MPX Women’s Championship
Ray Lyn vs. Abadon (c)

It was great to see Abadon back on ROH TV. Abadon had some great matches in the ROH ring, especially against Athena.

Lyn chest-bumped Abadon, not intimidated by them at all. Abadon let out a scream and sent her into the corner for some high knees. Abadon hit a hard suplex and unlike her previous persona, did a lot of jawing at the crowd.

Lyn grabbed their dreadlocks and threw them at the ground, hopping on top to deliver some strikes. Abadon got to their feet, but Lyn kept coming back with kicks. working the legs. She started dropping elbows on their knees and twisted Abadon’s ankle in repeated slams.

Abadon countered finally, grabbing an ankle lock. Lyn flipped them over and the two traded locks with Lyn getting Abadon into a Boston crab. Lyn raked the eyes and laid a kick into Abadon’s gut for a two count.

Abadon fought back with some strikes, but Lyn went back to the legs, slapping on a native American death lock. Abadon crawled to the ropes to break the hold.

Lyn charged right into an elbow from Abadon. Abadon threw a clothesline and then a spinning slam for a two count that seemed to surprise even her. Abadon went for a Sister Abigail-type move but their knee gave out and Lyn hit a pump kick. Abadon then countered into a flatliner and got the pin to retain the title.

Winner: Abadon via Pinfall to retain the MPX Women’s Championship.

ROH Pure Championship Proving Ground Match
Exodus Prime vs. Lee Moriarty (c)

Ok, so the promotion’s called “Metroplex” and they have a wrestler named Exodus Prime? You can’t tell me someone at MPX isn’t a big Transformers fan. If someone doesn’t turn into a truck in this match, I’ll be very upset.

The two shook hands and the clock started. Prime was pretty evenly matched against Moriarty in terms of size and speed, so the first lockup was a stalemate. Prime grabbed a wristlock and spun Moriarty around to cinch it in. Moriarty got out of it and slapped on an octopus, but Prime got to the ropes, using his first break at 8:47.

Moriarty thew Prime into the corner and hit a big chop on him. Prime reversed a whip thought and suplexed Moriarty. He then hit a spring board swanton and threw a few chops of his own. Moriarty dropped down off the ropes and delivered some knees to the gut.

Moriarty dragged Prime to the mat and put on a leg/headlock forcing Prime to use his second break at 6:02. Moriarty went for a butterfly slam, but Prime countered into an insiguri. He threw strikes in the corner including a big spinning uppercut.

Prime went for a full nelson, but Moriarty blocked it. Prime tried again and got the full nelson slam for a two count. Moriarty popped up with a rollthrough and Prime grabbed him in a pop up powerbomb. He then transitioned to a crab, forcing Moriarty to use his first break at 4:06.

Moriarty dig deep and grabbed Prime in a butterfly side slam. He grabbed the pin and got the 1-2-3 for the win.

Winner: Lee Moriarty via Pinfall.

Backstage: Mark Sterling, The Swirl, Premier Athlete

Backstage, Mark Sterling and the Premier Athletes met with The Swirl. Sterling said they were all tired of “Luchadores trying to take over ROH.” He proposed that the four of them team up to take care of the Luchadore problem. Christian asked if Stori Denali would be there. Sterling confirmed she would be and Christian said “we’re in.”

MPX Championship
JD Griffey vs. Delynn Cavens (c)

MPX Champion Cavens has one other ROH match under his belt and Griffey, an MMA expert, competed at Final Battle 2022. They were battling here for the very large MPX Title belt. It’s the bigger big-gold.

Griffey went for a strike right off the bell and Cavens used his speed to keep him at bay. Cavens landed a kick to the head and flashed a winning smile, but Griffey came right back and the two traded blows.

Griffey sent Cavens to the outside and hit a gutbuster on the ring apron (the guttiest part of the ring!). He slammed him on the apron again and then threw him back in for a cover. Cavens kicked out at two.

Griffey tried an arm lock, but Cavens fought out of it. Griffey dropped Cavens on his head and then tried for a slam, but Cavens countered it into a DDT. Cavens threw some high kicks, sending Griffey to the ropes for a 619. Cavens went up top and hit a 450 splash, but Griffey kicked out at two.

Cavens hit a double stomp on Griffey’s sternum and charged him in the corner. Cavens went for a splash from the top, but didn’t land it, giving Griffey an opening for a package shoulderbreaker. He then pinned Cavens to become the new MPX Champion!

Winner: JD Griffey via Pinfall to become the new MPX Champion.

Six-Women Tag Team Match
Maya World, Hyan, & Deonna Purrazzo vs. Athena & MIT (Billie Starkz & Diamante)

Athena made this challenge after Starkz and Diamante had laid out Hyan and World. She told them to find any partner and they landed on the ROH Women’s Pure Champion Purrazzo. Athena wore Hyan and World’s sashes down to the ring as trophies. She threw them at them as the match began.

Athena chose to start things off against World. They locked up and Athena took her down with a side headlock. The two chain wrestled into another lockup with World getting a wristlock. World came back with a headscissor and Athena countered with a dropkick.

Hyan tagged in and hit a big kick to the jaw. Athena refused a tag and hit an insiguri. Purrazzo tagged in and grabbed a quick armbar. Athena got out of it and threw a dropkick, but Purrazzo dodged it. Starkz tagged in and Hyan came in to double team her with Purrazzo.

Starkz fought back and World tagged in, dropping Starkz with a front face slam. World whipped her into the corner, but Starkz lifted her over the ropes and Athena pulled her off the ring apron. Diamante tagged in and Starkz hit a swanton on World on the outside.

Starkz tossed World back in for Diamante who tried to get a half crab on. World reached the ropes though and so Diamante started stomping her. Athena tagged in as Diamante whipped World into the MIT corner. Athena kicked her into the opposite corner and started playing to the crowd.

World tried to capitalize on that, but Athena cut her off from a tag and threw her back into the MIT corner where Starkz tagged in. She hit a DDT on World and Athena tagged back in to put the boots to her. World caight Athena with a backbreaker, but Starkz pulled Purrazzo off the apron before she could make a tag.

World hit a high kick and finally got a tag to Purrazzo who met Diamante in the center of the ring. She locked on a straight arm hold, but Diamante broke it. Starkz came in to break up a piledriver attempt and a brawl of suplexes broke out between all the women.

Purrazzo grabbed Athena and slammed her, but Diamante was legal and she rolled Purrazzo up for a two count. Diamante started throwing elbows before tagging in Starkz. Purrazzo took out a three of the MIT, and got a tag to World. Hyan came with her and they grabbed Starkz and Diamante, tossing them at each other.

Hyan and World hit a Gory bomb special on Starkz, but Athena broke up the pin. Hyan went for Athena who caught her, but Purrazzo interrupted. Athena hit a double facebreaker an callled in Diamante. They layed out World and Starkz hit a senton, but World broke up the pin.

Purrazzo tossed Diamante out of the ring and the brawled on the outside. Starkz fought World in the ring landing a swanton, but World got her knees up and rolled her into a pin to pick up the victory.
