As noted before, Samoa Joe is currently out of action due to him recently suffering a non-contact injury while training. This past Saturday’s AEW Collision show featured HOOK announcing that he was the new acting boss of The Opps while Joe is out recovering from his injury.
Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that Joe had recently suffered a non-contact injury and was not medically cleared to compete.
It was reported that those spoken to stated that Joe is currently in AEW’s concussion protocol.
No other details were given regarding the severity of Joe’s injury nor a potential timetable for his return.
In regards to AEW’s plans for Joe prior to his injury, it was reported that Joe had been factored in to “top of the card programs” including the AEW World Championship. AEW officials changed their plans following Joe’s injury and factored Andrade El Idolo into those plans afterwards. AEW officials reportedly were happy with El Idolo’s performance, especially his performance against Swerve Strickland in an AEW World Championship Contenders Series match on the January 28th episode of AEW Dynamite
