As noted before, former WWE wrestler Ted DiBiase Jr. was charged in April of 2023 with several criminal charges by the United States Department of Justice over his involvement in embezzling welfare funds as part of a larger welfare scandal in the State of Mississippi. DiBiase Jr.’s attorneys filed a motion last week requesting a mistrial due to one of his attorneys being unavailable for several weeks due to a health issue. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the United States District Court, Southern District of Mississippi issued a ruling this past Tuesday denying Ted DiBiase Jr.’s motion for a mistrial. In the ruling, United States District Judge Carlton Reeves stated that a new trial would be “particularly difficult” given the amount of media attention the trial has received locally. Johnson reported that the court had previously offered DiBiase Jr. the option of having another attorney and ruled that a new attorney they have approved will step in with the court paying for his costs but DiBiase having to handle the costs of his travel and other costs. Johnson also reported that if DiBiase’s primary attorney is able to resume his duties, the need for the new attorney will end.
In a recent interview with Grapple Theory, Will Ospreay gave his thoughts about the process that led to Charlie, former Dakota Kai in WWE, being booked for Pro Wrestling EVE’s Wrestle Queendom VIII and match against Kris Statlander. Ospreay stated “I wanted to try and find a wrestler that wasn’t attached to any other major company. I just had this moment, ‘Dakota Kai doesn’t work there now. I wonder if she’s free.’ I didn’t see anything because she doesn’t really post that much. I think she has a Twitch stream. I just dropped her a message and said, ‘What are the chances of making this happen?’ She got back to me right away. Super eager to do it. The back and forth between us was so good. She really wants to come to EVE and celebrate this huge show and really wanting to wrestle Kris Statlander.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
