Clarification on WWE’s Current Plans for Royce Keys & Reason For His Abscense Since Royal Rumble 2026
As noted before, Royce Keys, former Powerhouse Hobbs in AEW, made his official debut appearance in WWE at this past January’s WWE Royal Rumble 2026 event. Keys has been absent from televised in-ring action since then but he had competed in a dark match prior to the start of the February 13th episode of WWE SmackDown.
Fightful Select reported that a report from WrestlingNews.co had incorrectly aggregated a quote from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select that had suggested WWE officials currently had no creative plans for Keys for the reason for his current absence. This quote in dispute was:
“Nothing. Big question mark. Absolutely nothing. You know, we had speculated that SmackDown was the place for him. It certainly does still seem like that’s going to be his home. I know he was backstage Friday night. Saw some pictures of him. Don’t know when he’s showing up on TV. Hopefully, they have an idea. Hopefully, this is part of the plan.”
It was reported that this quote was taken out of context and the answer from WrestleVotes was in response to a question about whether there was an update on Keys. It was clarified that WrestleVotes was saying that there was no new update and not that WWE officials had nothing planned for Keys.
It was also reported that those spoken to stated that there have been things films for Keys but it is currently not known what was filmed, what are WWE’s current creative plans, nor a potential date for Keys re-debut.
WWE’s Current Match Plans for Gunther for WrestleMania 42
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that WWE’s current plans for Gunther for WrestleMania 42 are “undetermined” at the moment.
“Undetermined. Not something 100% I’ve heard. Don’t know where they’re going to go.”
It was reported that the three most likely choices for a match opponent for Gunther at WrestleMania 42 are Brock Lesnar, Oba Femi, and Rey Mysterio.
